    Blue - Adopt...

    Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: Ontario, ON
Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound / Coonhound (short coat). Blue is still awaiting his forever home. His wonderful foster family has received some great training advice and are working hard to help him overcome his challenges. Here is what his foster family has to say about this beautiful boy... Blue's health is great! He is approximately 3 years old, neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. Blue has vastly improved on the leash. He was difficult in the beginning, but we have received help from a trainer and have been tethering him to us on his walks and it has helped greatly. He will try to pull every once in a while if he smells something on the ground, but 90% of the time he will walk beside you. He is even learning to be a running partner. His foster family has been walking him through the park near their house to get him used to small children being around him. He will need some time to adjust to little people in his life. His fosters have also been introducing him to other dogs on the leash, and rewarding his good behaviour with treats every time he meets them. He has done very well meeting other dogs on the leash. In the beginning, Blue used to whine and bark at every dog he saw, but he has settled down in that capacity and only does it randomly now. He does fine on the yard leash by himself for short periods of time, but he will bark to come in after around 5-10 minute if he doesn't see anyone around. In his current home, Blue knows to stay off of the furniture, and he does not try to crawl up on any. When his people are watching TV he will lay on the carpet by them (once he settles down), and he sleeps on his bed in the master bedroom at night. Blue does not like to be crated, so when his people are away, he stays in a secure and safe room in the house, where he has lots of windows and a radio on to keep him company. He can be left with food out, as he is a grazer. He will put up a fuss at first when he knows his people are leaving, but he will go to his room fairly easily. Blue's fosters believe that he needs a home with someone who is retired or works from home and can be with him a lot. Right now he goes for at least 3 walks a day, and that seems to be the minimum for him. He is still young and does have some anxiety. With time. love and patience he will settle down. Blue doesn't have a lot of interest in playing with toys. He is best stimulated by following his nose and exploring new scents. Blue does have a tendency to run if allowed off-leash so a securely fenced yard is a must. Blue LOVES people. He has not growled at one person (even any strangers who may walk through the door). He will not bark at any one that is new, instead he will just happily greet them. Although he loves both men and women, he does seem to choose the male if given the choice, although he is great with both. He is very gentle taking any treats out of your hand, and has not shown any food aggression at all. Lastly, once he settles down at night, he is a pretty heavy sleeper (and snores to!!) Please consider giving Blue the forever he deserves. Please Note: We are all volunteers and busy taking care of our foster dogs so please take the time to fill out our on-line adoption application if you are interested in more information about any of the hounds that we have for adoption. Filling out our application does not obligate you to adopt in any way. It does, however, help us to determine if the dog that your interested in would be a good match for your family and lifestyle. All of our dogs are fully vetted. They have been vaccinated, altered, microchipped and heartworm tested and on prevention. VISIT COONHOUND COMPANIONS WEBSITE TO SEE WHY ADOPTING A COONHOUND CAN BE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! www.coonhoundcompanions.com ADOPTION FEE: $375.00 LOCATION: Blue is currently in foster care in St. Catharine's, ON. With the help of volunteers, transportation to his forever home can possibly be arranged. Don't let distance deter you! Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: Minneapolis, MN
Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (short coat). ‚Äč $250 plus tax Meet Caprica! Caprica, or Rica as she’s called, is remaining optimistic about finding her special forever home. Her original owners regrettably had to give her up as she did not adjust well to the new baby in the home. She is a sweet girl who's mature, and well behaved. She signals to go outside, loves soft/squeaky toys, and loves to be brushed! She was raised in a home with a cat and did well. She does not need to be crated when left alone and is absolutely perfect in the car. Now that the weather is cool, her foster owner lets her come with on errands which she gets very excited about! She’s not an excessive barker but will alert to people approaching the house or yard. She is protective of her space, toys, and surroundings and therefore, would do best as an only dog in a quiet or mellow neighborhood. Her owners will need to be willing to work with her on properly greeting strangers that visit the house. Her foster owners have consulted a trainer on the best technique and have had some success. The coonhound in her comes out when it’s time to chase squirrels! She trees them, bays, and bites at the bark in true hound fashion! Because of her personal space issues, this is not a dog for a person who wishes to take a dog into crowded areas like festivals and fairs. She does ok walking around on paths though. Her namesake is a planet in the Battlestar Galactica series and is named after the Zodiac sign of Capricorn. These dogs are deeply loyal and devoted which is exactly her personality. She bonds easily and strongly. Please help us find this girl the furever home that she deserves! Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the button below. or //

Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound / Black and Tan Coonhound / Mixed (short coat). This young lady was born in rescue to one of two mothers who came to us from an abandonment situation via the Suffolk Animal Care shelter. The moms are Black and Tan Coonhounds. She was treated for puppy mange, wormed and had her first and second vaccinations. She is ready to go to her fur-ever home! Adoption fee of $350 includes spay or neuter surgery between 4 and 6 months. A Little History Lesson on this pup: Eleven hounds were found in the Suffolk area abandoned, without food, water, or shelter. Two of the hounds were pregnant – in addition to being infested with worms, mange, and covered in urine scald. One of mothers was severely injured – to the point she could not stand. Understandably, these creatures were fearful of everything, having been utterly disappointed by their humans. Thankfully, a Pungo community of hunters, animal owners and lovers, Villa Lobos, and concerned citizens banded together to ensure the safety and well-being of these hounds. In addition to an abundance of donated dog food, fresh eggs, and other supplies, the residents contributed in excess of $1000 for necessities and much needed FHO surgery*. With the successful intervention of so many people working together, fourteen puppies were born at Big Sky Farms, where they were weaned and were placed in loving homes so that the mommas could continue their recovery. Eleven of those pups (female) were placed in foster homes through Fur-Ever Home Rescue at six weeks of age. These little angels have known nothing but kindness and love from dozens of caring people – animal owners, friendly neighbors, hunting enthusiasts, and social media followers. Without the combined effort of so many people, their story would be much different. *“A femoral head osteotomy, also referred to as a femoral head ostectomy or FHO, is the surgical removal of the head and neck of the femur. In simpler terms, it is the removal of the “ball” part of the ball-and-socket that makes up the hip joint. This way, the bones of the joint are no longer in contact, which eliminates the pain that is caused by the abnormal contact of the bones.” Source: http://www.topdoghealth.com/library/orthopedic-surgery/articles-surgery/femoral-head-osteotomy-fho-dogs/ Black and Tan Coonhound Information: The Black and Tan Coonhound is a breed of dog used primarily for trailing and treeing raccoons. It is a cross between the Bloodhound and the Black and Tan Virginia Foxhound. This breed has an incredible sense of smell, is adaptable, easygoing, even-tempered, gentle, lovable, and trusting – all incredible qualities favored by hunters. Breeding for purpose over aesthetics (per the strict PKC behavior rules) has eliminated many physical issues other large dogs suffer, like hip dysplasia.

Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound / Black and Tan Coonhound / Mixed (short coat). I'm a pretty smart young lady, considering my humble beginnings. As a pink lady, I'm fairly savvy and I stick up for myself when my girls (sisters) get a little rowdy. I'm about 12 weeks old - I've had all my puppy shots and my first rabies vaccine.I was so good at the vet the other day, I didn't even cry (that's the worst thing I could dooooooooo). Sorry, I got carried away crooning. Anyway, I'm learning my manners and potty training. I'm a great climber (out of my pen, from time to time) and I'll sniff out when it's dinner time. I'm available to be your very own Pink Lady, if you'll be my Kenickie! A Little History Lesson on this pup: Eleven hounds were found in the Suffolk area abandoned, without food, water, or shelter.
