Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (medium coat). Hi! Thanks for giving me some attention! I'd like you to know that I've already been spayed or neutered. At Animal Friends, dogs and cats also leave fully up-to-date on shots and microchipped. All I need now is to find someone who will love me. Please ask to meet with an adoption counselor, so we can be properly introduced and talk about what kind of pet you're looking for. We can discuss whether you're looking for a lap pet or a social butterfly, an "only pet" or a furry "sibling" for kids or other animals. Best of all, by adopting from Animal Friends, you make it possible for them to rescue and care for another pet who truly needs help. So, what are you waiting for? Let's sit down together! ***************************************************** Hi! Thanks for giving me some attention! Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (short coat). Adoption Fee: 265. STAR is a foster-based rescue. All our rescue animals stay in foster homes until adoption. We do not have a central facility. If you want to meet any of our adoptables please submit an application. New to STAR All STAR animals come vetted, Up to Date (UTD) on age appropriate shots and testing, spay and neutered (if of age,) and microchipped. AGE DISCLAIMER: Unfortunately, most of the orphaned animals that come into our rescue looking for homes don’t bring birth certificates. Sometimes we know our pets’ ages. Sometimes we don’t. So we make our best guess based on the condition of their teeth and the veterinarians best guess. BREED DISCLAIMER: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label . Microchips: For the safety of our dogs and peace of mind of our fosters and adopters, STAR microchips all dogs prior to adoption with Petlink Microchips. Please understand that all dogs MUST still wear a collar with ID tags (which include your current information) AT ALL TIMES. Please remember, our foster dogs are extremely important to us-- we will always take any of our dogs back, if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog. Never surrender him/her to a shelter!

    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound / Hound (short coat). Adoption Fee: 100.00. Vandy was rescued from a high kill shelter after she was abandoned VERY preganant. This beautifully sweet mama is sure to make a great companion! Fast forward from 2013 to present day...Vandy (renamed Zandy) was adopted over four years ago. Her journey took her from Florida to Colorado where her family relocated. Unfortunately, things did not work out for her there and after a five hour plane ride, she finds herself back in Florida once again looking for her forever family. This is what her prior adopter had to say: We adopted Zandy 4.5 years ago. She was very timid at first towards my husband, but soon warmed up both to him and eventually to friends and family who visited. Visitors need a little time to get acquainted with her and she acts shy hanging back from them. She has always had a very sweet and gentle personality, loving to cuddle with us on the couch or floor. She loves long walks, chasing and hunting for squirrels. She loves one on one attention, and occasionally will play fetch with her self if given a squeaky toy or a rope. She does not like water, and is nervous when it rains due to the Thunderstorms often associated with rain that she is terrified of. Zandy knows and loves to do tricks for treats at the commands of "sit" "stay" "down" "shake" "rollover" "dance" (just do a hand motion in a circle) "up" and "sit up". As Zandy likes to get all of the attention, she would do best in home without small children. Older children are fine! FOSTER UPDATE 1-15-18: Vandy has been back in Florida for a few weeks now and has settled in. She can be a bit shy upon first meeting her but is quite loving once she gets to know you. She is well behaved in the house and is content curling up on the couch - once given permission to be on the couch! She gets along with my 12 year old son and loves to sleep in the bed with him. She gets along with my personal dogs too although she would probably do best with easy going dogs. (She kind of likes to be the top dog!) All in all, Vandy is an awesome layed back girl that would love a family to call her own. According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Black and Tan Coonhound was developed by crossing the Bloodhound and Foxhound, in the United States on the basis of its colors (black and tan). Best known as a raccoon hunter, the Black and Tan Coonhound howls as he trees his quarry. The breed has also been used very successful to hunt other types of game such as bear, stag, opossum, deer and mountain lion - even on difficult terrain. It withstands well the rigors of winter as well as intense heat. Timid or nervous dogs may be disqualified from exhibitions. The official recognition dates from 1945. Some of the Black and Tan Coonhounds talent's include hunting, tracking, watchdogging, and agility. A quick-to-follow, intelligent, loyal and good-natured hunter and companion, the Black and Tan Coonhound pleases hunter and owner alike. The Black and Tan is an alert and eager dog who is very dedicated to his work. Some sources say this passionate worker is a bit aggressive, but will listen to his master. Other sources say he is gentle and friendly with people. Some individuals are protective and are a bit reserved with strangers. They are usually best with older considerate children. Sometimes they can play rough. This dog can be willful, requiring firm, patient and on-going training. They may howl if they are left alone too much. Do not let this breed off the leash in an unsafe area, as they may take off after an interesting scent. Some Black and Tan tend to be aggressive with other strange dogs. There are two types of Black and Tan Coonhounds: show and field. The show types are a bit larger and maybe somewhat less energetic and work oriented, and therefore tend to make better pets. This breed drools and slobbers. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.

Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound. Note: This is a courtesy posting only! This dog is not available through Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. Please contact CrisisDogsNC@gmail.com or 919-748-9546 for more information. *Adoption fee applies! Romeo, A BIG puppy! -- FOSTER or ADOPT! Romeo is 9 months old and already 80 pounds. This magnificent pup was incredibly abandoned by his owner at his groomer. Romeo is very smart, knows commands, is housetrained, energetic and cuddly, loves to be close. He is quiet, has reportedly barked a few times when a stranger approached the front door, but he happily greets everyone on his walk s. This is a "gun shy" hound who is scared of loud noise, not a hunting dog. Romeo cowers around the resident cats and gets along well with other dogs...just wants to play! We suggest older kids since his size and enthusiasm can overwhelm small ones and small ones can leave a door or gate open and Romeo will bolt. We are looking for an experienced big dog adopter who has a fenced yard where Romeo can romp. We will REDUCE his adoption fee of $310 with enrollment and graduation from a training course . Home visit and vet references required. Pls fill out a foster or adoption form on www.crisisdogsnc.or We will transport to an approved home. All CrisisDogsNC animals are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, heart worm tested, de-wormed, up-to-date on vaccinations and behaviorally assessed before adoption. Application (available at www.CrisisDogsNC.org/adopt) required prior to adoption, and adoption fee required at adoption. We transport dogs within NC and to Virginia and South Carolina; for other areas, contact us. CrisisDogsNC is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. Contact us at CrisisDogsNC@gmail.com or 919-748-9546. Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound / Hound (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400.00. Meet Floyd! This handsome boy is Floyd, an 8 year old black & tan coonhound. Floyd has spent the last 6 years living at a boarding facility with an irresponsible owner who basically just forgot about him! Then when her business was closing she said if a rescue didn't take him she was going to have him put to sleep. We could not let this happen to such a wonderful boy. He is now in a foster home waiting for a family to call his own. He is a good dog, knows some basic obedience commands and he is crate trained and house trained. Floyd is an active energetic boy for being 8 years old. He acts like a much younger dog! He also loves back scratches! Floyd is a scent hound and he loves to chase chipmunks and squirrels. He does not do well with cats. A fenced yard for him to run around in would be ideal for Floyd. He also loves going for walks. He will need some training on leash walking as he does like to pull and sniff everything! Floyd did not have any exposure to young children during the 6 years he was penned up. We are not recommending he be placed in a home with children under the age of 12. Please consider giving this boy a second chance with a family who truly loves him. Floyd would do very well as an only dog and the center of your universe. Please Note: We are all volunteers and busy taking care of our foster dogs so please take the time to fill out our on-line adoption application if you are interested in more information about any of the hounds that we have for adoption. Filling out our application does not obligate you to adopt in any way. It does, however, help us to determine if the dog that your interested in would be a good match for your family and lifestyle. All of our dogs are fully vetted. They have been vaccinated, altered, microchipped and heartworm tested and on prevention. VISIT COONHOUND COMPANIONS WEBSITE TO SEE WHY ADOPTING A COONHOUND CAN BE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! www.coonhoundcompanions.com ADOPTION FEE: $400.00 LOCATION: Floyd is currently in foster care in Victoria Harbour, ON. With the help of volunteers, transportation to his forever home can possibly be arranged. Don't let distance deter you! If you would like to give this handsome boy a forever home please fill out our on line adoption application at www.coonhoundrescue.ca/adoption-application
