Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (short coat). Looking for a dashingly handsome hound? Cosmo fits the bill! And good looks are just the tip of the iceberg! His personality is shining and he happens to be as sharp as a tack. Cosmo can be silly and is always super sweet. We first met this special boy when he was an intake at the local shelter, Cosmo came in on the thin side, but rapidly began to lose a large amount of weight. He was eating and even receiving medical care, but still could not keep weight on. The shelter knew just who to call as a last ditch effort at saving him. After a few days in foster care, a condition called EPI was suspected as the culprit, and treatment immediately began. Animals with EPI cannot digest and absorb their food due to the pancreas not producing enzymes. This is treated by putting an enzyme powder on all food he consumes. After one month on pancreatic enzymes, he has gained 32 lbs.,weighing in at 69 lbs now. We are so thankful that this amazing boy, who was truly at death's door, is now happy and strong. He will bring a huge amount of joy to a lucky family that is willing to provide a small amount of special care. Email us with questions or for an application. * Cosmo's enzymes are about $30.00 each month.

    Duncan - Ado...

    Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400.00. Meet Duncan! This handsome fellow came to Gentle Jake's from Kentucky. This sweet lovable hound was residing in a rural shelter, listed as a stray, estimated to be 6-8 years old. Shelter staff knew he was a gem and reached out to us to help find him a safe place to wait for his forever home. Here is what Duncan's foster home has to say about him.... Duncan is an amazing dog! He is timid at first when he meets new people, but does become attached fairly quickly. He is not the type of dog to run up and jump on new people or visitors to the home. He prefers to stand back and take things in at a distance at first. He loves people, and once he knows you are ok, he will love you to bits. Duncan enjoys spending time in his crate, and will go there willingly to have a nap or to chill. He has no problem having his crate door shut for the night, or during the day when his people need to go to work. Duncan loves his visits to the dog park, and enjoys meeting new dogs of all sizes. He shows no signs of dog aggression, resource guarding, or fear aggression. Duncan would fit well in a family with respectful children. He is a laid back dog that may not want to play rough with younger children, or be climbed on. A working family would suit Duncan just fine. Daily walks and visits to the dog park are right up his alley. He does not have separation anxiety, so when you are at work, he will happily wait for you in his crate. Duncan is housetrained and knows to ask to go outside to do his business. He is still working on his house manners and will inspect food left out on the counter. He is a smart, fast learner. He understands what is not ok, and with some calm reinforcement, his house manners will be great in no time! Duncan has been tested with cats and showed absolutely no interest. He may even be frightened but an overly assertive cat :) He is currently attending training sessions with his foster and is doing very well. We can provide his new home with all of the training info for what we have been working on with Duncan. Duncan is not an escape artist, or fence jumper/climber. He does not dig. Duncan is a quiet dog and does not howl much. He will use his nose to get your attention if there is something he wants. Duncan travels well in the car. Overall, Duncan is an awesome dog. "how someone let him go is beyond me". Please Note: We are all volunteers and busy taking care of our foster dogs so please take the time to fill out our on-line adoption application if you are interested in more information about any of the hounds that we have for adoption. Filling out our application does not obligate you to adopt in any way. It does, however, help us to determine if the dog that your interested in would be a good match for your family and lifestyle. All of our dogs are fully vetted. They have been vaccinated, altered, microchipped and heartworm tested and on prevention. VISIT COONHOUND COMPANIONS WEBSITE TO SEE WHY ADOPTING A COONHOUND CAN BE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! www.coonhoundcompanions.com ADOPTION FEE: $400.00 LOCATION: Duncan is currently in foster care in Victoria Harbour, ON. With the help of volunteers, transportation to his forever home can possibly be arranged. Don't let distance deter you! Rain Coonhou...

    Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (short coat). Adoption Fee: $275.00. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant. Rain is a sweet Coonhound that animal control brought in with a prolapse. She was such a sweet girl we just had to take her in. Rain had surgery and she is good as new. She does need a fenced-in yard so she can follow her nose and be safe. She prefers bigger dogs to play with. Rain has been spayed, up to date on vaccines, heart worm tested negative, dewormed, and is microchipped. If you would love to have a sweet cuddle buddy this is your girl. Rain would also be great for anyone that loves to run or hike- that would be right up her alley. If you are interested in adopting Rain, please contact: Debra at janrose@swva.net

    Hendo

    Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (short coat). Please take the time to read the entire profile. We spend alot of time putting as much info in them as possible. Thank you in advance. Hendo- Hendo is as sweet as they come. He is a darling black and tan coonhound with a nose for a home of his own. He has huge ears, and a long tail and a heart bigger then he is. He is a great dog and we adore him. He is an amazing dog who just needs a home of his own and a family that loves him. He is so sweet and just wants to have a good time. He is a great dog for a family looking for a buddy who is happy to live life to the fullest. For a hound he is a laid back guy who just wants to have a good time. Hendo came to us from a shelter who really goes above and beyond for their dogs. He was surrendered by his owner because they had moved to an appartment and some of the other dogs there would charge him. Being a hound when he barked back he would scare the other tenants with his bay! He was not being mean and loves play day at foster. But simply didn’t like to be lunged at by other dogs when he just wanted to go potty. He is a sweet guy who loves kids, dogs, and loves to hang out with his family. He just needs one of his own. Hendo is a great dog. He is a laid back guy who just wants to play and run with his friends. He does well with other dogs, people, and loves to have a good time. He is a mellow guy in the house and will hang out on his dog bed or chew on his toys. He is great about not getting into things and is quiet for a hound. He also loves to hang out in the yard and have a good time too. He is found of fetch but the foster he is with is much faster then him and gets the ball most of the time. That’s ok, he just loves the game. He does great in the car, loves rides, and just wants to have a good time. Hendo is up to date, dewormed, flea treated, and altered. He is micro chipped, house broken, and does ok in a crate. He is doing better on leash as he would pull when he first came to us. He knows some basic commands but is normal hound dog stubborn when he wants to be. He loves to play with the other dogs, and seems to ignore the cat in foster. He is a great dog who just wants to sniff out a home of his own. We have not seen any health issues, behavior issues, ect. He is an amazing guy. We spend a lot of time trying to get to know the dogs in our program as best as we can. This means that we have spent time introducing them to dogs, cats, kids, animals, people and as many things as we can. We try to do as much as we can to evaluate them, both with in our group and if the dogs come from other rescues or shelters their evaluations as well. However dogs are individuals and will react to different situations differently. This means that we do not know how a dog will react in every situation. We give out our best guess based off information provided but the handler of a dog and the way they are introduced to a situation makes a huge impact. So if you have any questions of how to introduce a dog to your home, please let us know and we will provide as much info as we can from pamphlets to helping find a trainer in your area. Our rescue aims to help dogs who are passed by and over looked by most rescues and people. We help the dogs who are in need of medical care, vetting, training and breeds that most will not help with. In most shelters if you are large dog, a big dog, or a male dog; from the moment you walk in you are on barrowed time. If you have docked ears or are a guardian breed your time was over before you walked in the doors. We aim to save these dogs and give them a second chance. Please help us save more lives by helping with our medical bills as they grow. This year has already been hard and we have many medical dogs in need. https://www.gofundme.com/v2eap2f8 If you would like to adopt this pet please send us an email. Applications will be sent to you via email. We do our best to get back to emails in 24 hrs. If it has been longer then that please resend another email. We would love to hear from you. We welcome any questions that you may have. Our goal is to find the right fit for every home, not just any home! We have been informed that some of the links to email us regarding our adoptable dogs are not working. This has been on going for a few weeks with petfinder and a few other links. If you find this to be an issue that you are having please send an email directly to us at: RisingPhoenixWa@aol.com If you are inquiring on a specific pet we do ask that you put the name of the pet in the subject line. So we know who it is that you are inquiring regarding. Thank you in advance for understanding as we work through this. As with any rescue we are always in need of donations. MANY of our dogs come in with special needs or medical issues. These need to be resolved before going home. If you would like to make a donation toward a dogs medical care you can use our paypal address RisingPhoenixWa@aol.com you can also email us for a physical address. We are always in need of dog food, soft food for some of our special needs dogs, collars, leashes, crates, and toys!

    Esmeralda

    Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (short coat). A quick glance at Esmeralda trotting around the yard might make you think she’s a show pony, and this gentle lady certainly has the looks and disposition for it. Originally from Ohio, Esmeralda has not been at Adopt-A-Dog for too long but has made an impression on our staff with her zany but quiet antics. While she is the picture of grace and beauty, Esmeralda has a playful side that often involves her being covered in either fluff or feathers. Esmeralda likes her one-on-one time with her people, and likes to take it slow when she meets newer people. With some treats, she warms right up and is ready to have you give her tons of head and back scratches! Esmeralda absolutely adores toys, especially the stuffed kind, and would have the best time in a Build-A-Bear factory. Esmeralda is graceful and goofy in equal parts and is just waiting for her new family to come along! If you are interested in adopting Esmeralda, please fill out the following online application here: https://goo.gl/EV9BYv

Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400.00. Dave is the sweetest boy you can ever imagine. He is a senior boy who quickly became accustomed to the "finer" things in life -- soft bed, back scratches, chopped up food, and adoration! Not much is known about his background, but he appears to not have had a good life prior to rescue. He was very underweight with little muscle tone in hind quarters. Dave had several rotten teeth removed and is feeling much better now. Dave has been in his foster home since May. He has put on much needed weight and slowly building up muscles in his hindquarters. Dave is happy to share his house with dogs and/or cats. He now has no trouble getting up on the bed and making himself comfortable. This boy is just lookin for love! Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound (short coat). From her foster mom: Maggie is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever known and all she wants to do is be loved. She absolutely loves other dogs and people in general. Not a big fan of cats so that's not recommended. She is officially housetrained and loves to go on walks and car rides. When Maggie's owner went into a wheelchair, she could no longer care for her beloved dogs so EHR took them in rather than have them end up in the local kill shelter. In the one picture you can see where Maggie lived from the age of 12 weeks until her rescue by EHR. Maggie Lue is 2 years old, Black and Tan, and she weighs 86 pounds. We are hoping to find her a home where she is not neglected, and will never have to live in a pen again. Maggie deserves a life with a family that will care and love her - she would be a wonderful addition to any family. Maggie Lue has been spayed and fully vetted - if you'd like to meet this sweetheart. please fill out an application on this great girl today - be sure to ask for her by name, MAGGIE LUE SCAS!
