He’s definitely a lap dog who just wants to snuggle. He’s sight impaired so most times he just follows right along behind you wherever you go. He does stairs fine and walks well on the leash. He honestly just wants to be with his person. He’s very quiet and low energy. He gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home and his previous owner says he is good with cats and older children who understand his vision problems. He’s a little overweight – he’s so cute we can understand why it’s hard to say no to his little face – but we’ve put him on a healthy diet to help. Slim Jim

    Breed: Great Dane-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: Warwick, RI
Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Great Dane / Mixed. NOW FOSTERING IN NEW ENGLAND! Meet Slim Jim (aka Slender James when he's feeling fancy). Slim made his way to a lady’s house one day. He played with her dogs all day long, but when they had to leave that night, Slim had made himself at home on the porch. The lady called for a police officer to come get Slim. The officer found that Slim had recently been neutered and had a brand new collar on. He was obviously loved and cared for by someone. But for some reason, nobody ever came to claim him at the shelter. We can’t figure out why. The officer who brought Slim in spent 15 minutes loving on him. He even gave him a kiss right on his muzzle! Slim loved the personal up close attention. The officer also left Slim with a stuffed animal, which Slim didn't chew up! Slim is smart and a good boy with everyone. He is a shelter favorite! UPDATE: 2.20.17: Slim arrived to New England ready to W-O-W! He is one hunka hunka burnin' luv! Slim is fostering with 7 other dogs and gets along great with all of them. In fact he loves every dog and person he's met. Slim is an active boy, needs lots of running room to play and expend his energy which the younger dogs love, but he does not pester the seniors. When it's time to relax he's just as happy sitting on the deck, at your feet (or better yet, on the couch with you) getting ear and belly rubs. Slim would love to have another dog to play with, or doggie daycare would be an option as well. Slim knows to sit and ask pretty please for his bowl, comes when called, is good in the car (although he would like to drive...), isn't a big barker and is fully housetrained. Slim Jim would love an active family who will give him the love and exercise he needs; he will give so much back in return. Does this sound like you? If so get your applications in, as this handsome devil will get scooped up quickly! • Mutt Dog For Adoption in Wakefield, RI

    Harry Solis

    rescue
    Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: Wakefield, RI
Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Age: 4 Years Weight: 66 lbs This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Is your house missing a handsome 4-legged friend? Have no fear Harry is here! Harry can fill all your large dog needs. Harry can be your walking/running/hiking partner or your snuggle buddy. Harry appears to be a black Labrador Retriever mix that is approximately 4 years old. Harry is playful and has a moderate energy level. He is leash trained but will need to be house trained and crate trained. A fenced in yard would be great, but Harry has been known to be able to climb or jump over fences, so supervision will be needed. At the shelter Harry would only try to escape when his kennel mate did, he is definitely a follower. Harry does well around other dogs and kids, and he will be fine living with a cat, as he is afraid of them. He is working on being obedient and will need to continue obedience training in his new home. Harry hasn't had a great life thus far. Harry was one of several dogs rescued by one of our southern rescue partners. The outfit where he was rescued from claimed to be a "wildlife rehabilitation and rescue organization", but this sweet dog was confined in a very small cage with other large breed dogs. The only access to the cage was through a door that had been barricaded with railroad tires and other large pieces of wood and metal. There was a ladder that was against the door so that someone could come climb the ladder and dump food onto the ground for all of them to eat. Their water was infested with mosquito larva and their pen was nothing but feces and mud. In addition to the rescued dogs, officials found a python, bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, and other wildlife housed on the property. The man who owned the property got 19 counts Misdemeanor Cruelty to animals, community service, fines, restitution, and jail time. Thankfully Harry's nightmare of a past is over and from now on Harry will have nothing but lots of love and a warm place to call home. If you would like Harry to be part of your family, please fill out an application...Harry will pay you back with lots of unconditional love. NOTE: Harry has a mole on his lip that looks like a bloated tick, but there is no concerns about this. There is no need to remove it at this time. Medical Note: Harry is being treated for heartworm disease with multiple staged melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and Harry tests negative for microfilaria, Harry will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted, estimated for mid-March 2017. SOS exclusively supports the American Heartworm Association protocol for heartworm disease. Before coming to SOSARL, heartworm treatment was attempted on Harry following another protocol, but was unsuccessful. Following AHS protocol takes more time and costs more money, but Harry is a living testament as to why that protocol is the standard. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Harry has shown no clinical symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. SPONSORSHIP: Harry's heartworm treatment expenses have been made possible by a collaborative effort between the Humane Society of Independence County, AR and the Martha Decker Memorial Fund for Animals' special Heart Help project. Proper treatment for heartworm disease can take hundreds of dollars and several months - two precious resources that can be very hard to find for homeless dogs. To follow this dog's treatment story, and those of other Heart Help dogs, visit www.facebook.com/HWHeartHelp. Please consider supporting heartworm treatment of SOS dogs by donating today via PayPal.com to dogs@sosarl.org. Adoption Fee: $425 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Treeing Walker Coonhound / Mixed. Russell was rescued from a backyard in Tennessee along with his six siblings. For years, seven large hounds were kept confined in an outdoor pen with little to no interactions with people or other animals, making for some very insecure, unsocialized, desperately broken dogs. Paws New England rescued all seven, and one-by-one, each made their way to New England to foster homes. Russell is from a group of dogs who were given zero chances in life but who survived. He is a survivor. Hello there, My name is Russell. My foster mom calls methe cowardly lion, I know I look so big on the outside but I am a little cowardly on the inside. I do love my ball though and love it when my foster dadgoes outside and plays ball with me, I could fetch that ball for hours and Ieven like to chomp on it walking around the yard it makes a really squishy kind of sound that makes me feel good. I am housebroken and know my basic commands. There are some things that the cowardly lion doesn’t like either like riding in the car- it’s so scary to see those people and bikes going by I like to bark at them and then they leave. I also get really scared at the vet. My best friends are my foster sisters, I love girl dogs, I mean who wouldn’t I love running with them and just hanging out with them it's the best. My foster brother is ok but I really like girls. I think my ideal forever home would allow me to go outside and hang out but come in and lie on a softbed. Hang with my owners and I also do like my crate too since that is my special place when there is too many scary things I like to go in there andjust relax. Little kids scare me they run too fast and get crazy but I think I would like older kids.
