    Clara Southe...

    Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Baby
    Location: Wakefield, RI
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). COME MEET ME! I will be at the Always Adopt event on June 4, 2017, at Balise Toyota in Warwick, RI - unless I am adopted sooner. If you want to adopt me, don't wait - fill out an application now and you could take me home sooner! ;@ ALWAYS ADOPT Age: 3 Months (as of 6/9/17) Weight: 12.1 lbs (as of 5/10/17) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Southern Charm times four! Meet Clara, one of the two girls in the Southern Charm litter! This puppy's Momma was abandoned a few months ago in Arkansas and a Good Samaritan took her in to care for her until room opened up in the shelter. Shortly thereafter, Momma gave birth to six sweet pups. One of the puppies was given away before SOSARL could help out, and the foster will be keeping one of the puppies, but there are four little sweethearts available for adoption! They will be weaned around 6-7 weeks and kept with Momma and each other until about 10 weeks of age for continued socialization, before being transported to New England for adoption. Happily, Momma has already found her forever home - her Good Samaritan rescuer has adopted her! Being just a puppy Clara has so much to learn! She'll need house training and will need to learn to walk on a leash. She's pretty much crate trained already. We strongly recommend that all our dogs - and especially puppies - attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and her human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take her. Though a fenced yard is an ideal place for your puppy to romp and play safely, if that’s not an option then lots of daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. These pups love laptime, chew toys, going places and digging! They're always ready for action and love playing chase, tug-o-war and wrestling - they're more than happy to settle down for a nap after all that activity though! Puppies are a lot of work and require a strong commitment to teaching them obedience, socializing them with other dogs and people, playing with them and loving them to pieces. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience to bring up a puppy - and it’s totally worth it! Clara is an affectionate, playful puppy who loves everyone: kids, cats and other dogs! She would LOVE to have a forever home and family to call her very own. Fill out an application today and this cutie pie might be snuggling her way into your heart! Medical Note: A littermate of this dog tested positive and was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. This dog has also been preventatively treated and currently shows no symptoms of demodectic mange. Please note that demodex can have a hereditary component and/or flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g., transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc.). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a personal or family history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741 . Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. Adoption Fee: $550 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

    Breed: Pointer-Unknown Mix

Posted Breed: Pointer / Mixed (short coat). COME MEET ME! I will be at the Always Adopt event on June 4, 2017, at Balise Toyota in Warwick, RI - unless I am adopted sooner. If you want to adopt me, don't wait - fill out an application now and you could take me home sooner! ;@ ALWAYS ADOPT Age: 7 Months (as of 5/7/17) Weight: 51 lbs (as of 5/7/17) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Mister B's looking for you! This handsome dude appears to be a Pointer mix about 7 months old. He's the quiet, strong type - with his assumed breed mix he'll likely need at least 1-2 hours of exercise and mental stimulation a day. He's looking for a strong leader - someone who'll commit to basic training, and maybe even tricks, agility or further training - that would be ideal! He's also requested a very active, but structured household with lots of time for him. He got along fine with the other two dogs he used to live with, though he probably wouldn't be well-suited to living with another quiet, strong type that wasn't submissive. He's uninterested in kitty cats, but kids are okay. He hasn't let us know yet whether or not he's house trained, but he's crate trained and walks on a leash. He's not much into toys, but he's affectionate and gentle. He's good in the car and is interested in new people and going to new places. He's been working on "sit" and would love to show you. Though a fenced yard is a safe place to practice what you're learning, if that's not an option then lots of leash walks and chances for off-leash play in a dog park are the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog, they say! Puzzle toys and games can provide some of the mental stimulation that Mister B enjoys. Mister B and his two canine siblings were left in the house when his previous owner moved away. He'd like some assurance that you'll be his forever people. If you can do this for him, fill out an application today! Mister B promises he'll be your forever buddy. Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. We are pleased to introduce...Milo! He appears to be a 1 1/2 year old terrier shepherd mix. Milo was a stray in Mississippi and was being attacked by a pack of dogs when he was rescued by a kind stranger. Fortunately, he made his way to SOS, and now he is ready to run towards a happy and wonderful future! We got this, Milo! His current foster Mom wants you to know that Milo is an extremely sweet, outgoing, playful dog who loves everyone...but he is terrified of cats! Milo is crate and leash trained, and he is working hard on his house training. He loves to ride in the car, and is a smart, even tempered dog who would love to hang out with his person or family. Like all pups, Milo needs daily exercise and would love a home with a fenced in yard so he can run and play with you outdoors. Bonus- when playtime is done, Milo would love to curl up with you on the couch! Obedience classes are recommended for all new pups to brush up on house manners and socialization. These classes are also a great way to get to know and bond with your new family member! Milo has been waiting patiently for his forever home...has he been waiting for you??? Apply today!! Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Mixed (short coat). COME MEET ME! I will be at the Always Adopt event on June 4, 2017, at Balise Toyota in Warwick, RI - unless I am adopted sooner. If you want to adopt me, don't wait - fill out an application now and you could take me home sooner! ;@ ALWAYS ADOPT Age: 5 Years Weight: 65.8 lbs This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Check out this handsome dude! Duke looks to be a Rottweiler mix around 5 years old. He loves people of all ages. Duke is gentle and is a 65 pound lap dog. He is very playful and has high energy. An ideal home for Duke would be a home with an active family. He's good with kids, though because he still jumps up bigger kids might be a better match. He gets along fine with other dogs, but he doesn't get along with cats, and he has a high prey drive. Duke is very intelligent, is house trained, crate trained and leash trained. A home with a fenced yard would be best for his energy and activity level, but when he's outside he will need supervision at all times. As we said he is very smart and can unlock door and gate latches and then escape. He knows a few commands like "sit," "down," and "shake." This is a good start, but we still recommend obedience training for a few of his unacceptable habits like: counter surfing, jumping on guests, barking and his stubbornness. Duke was found running down a highway and luckily he did not get hit. If you would like to give this awesome boy a home, please fill out an application. You will be glad you did! Medical Note: Duke is being treated for heartworm disease with multiple staged melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and Duke tests negative for microfilaria, Duke will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted, estimated for mid-March 2017. SOS exclusively supports the American Heartworm Association protocol for heartworm disease. Before coming to SOSARL, heartworm treatment was attempted on Duke following another protocol, but was unsuccessful. Following AHS protocol takes more time and costs more money, but this dog is a living testament as to why that protocol is the standard. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Duke has shown no clinical symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. SPONSORSHIP: Duke's heartworm treatment expenses have been made possible by a collaborative effort between the Humane Society of Independence County, AR and the Martha Decker Memorial Fund for Animals' special Heart Help project. Proper treatment for heartworm disease can take hundreds of dollars and several months - two precious resources that can be very hard to find for homeless dogs. To follow this dog's treatment story, and those of other Heart Help dogs, visit www.facebook.com/HWHeartHelp. Please consider supporting heartworm treatment of SOS dogs by donating today via PayPal.com to dogs@sosarl.org. If you want to adopt me, don't wait - fill out an application now and you could take me home sooner! ;@ ALWAYS ADOPT Age: 6-7 Months (as of 4/18/17) Weight: 35 lbs (as of 5/10/17) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Here's the Hardy litter! This awesome foursome is made up of 3 males and 1 female. Mom appears to be a Cattle Dog mix who is very sweet and we expect no different from her pups. We think they will be medium to large in size as adults. Typically Cattle Dogs are extremely active and need constant mental and physical activity. Dusty and his litter mates will need obedience training as they come to you needing all your guidance, training and love. They are not house trained, crate trained or leash trained. This will take someone who has the time, patience and energy to help them be the dog everyone wants around. The Hardy litter, had a hard start to life. Mom gave birth to 12 sweet puppies and only 6 survived, the remainder were shot by a man whose parents' property was adjacent to the people who owned mom. Dusty Hardy is a handsome black and tan with white on his chest, chin, left leg and toes. He was shot but the bullet went in and out below his right hip joint. The wound appears to be clean and does not seem to bother him. He's not nearly as big as his siblings and is such a sweet dog! Although he and his litter mates did not have early exposure to many people or situations, he thrives for attention and to be loved. He has the Border Collie nipping personality, more so than his siblings. It's mainly his way of getting attention. He LOVES being with people, but will need training to break that habit. He is outgoing and not at all timid or shy, he loves being around other puppies as well as adult dogs of various sizes and ages. He has not been around cats or children, but we think he will make a great family dog. Car rides upset his little belly, but he is still young so he may grow out of it. If you would love to give Dusty a home with lots of love and attention, please fill out an application and get ready for lots of sweet puppy kisses! If you want to adopt me, don't wait - fill out an application now and you could take me home sooner! ;@ ALWAYS ADOPT Age: 1 Year 9 Months (as of 5/21/17) Weight: 9 lbs (as of 3/26/17) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. This sweet little guy is Coco! Coco appears to be a Miniature Pinscher mix a little over a year and a half old. He's a yummy chocolate color and as sweet as his name! We still need a bit more information on him, but here's what we know: he's crate trained and walks on a leash, and he's good in the car. He's fine with other dogs and with kids - he previously lived with children as young as six months of age with no issues. We don't know about kitty cats. According to his previous owner he's house trained, however he has been marking in his foster home. He doesn't require a yard or a fence, just daily leash walks for exercise and to do his business. He probably wouldn't mind having a yard though or daily jaunts to the dog park to play fetch - one of his loves. He likes toys, is affectionate and playful. He's friendly in a shy way when meeting new people. He doesn't growl, just shakes and licks his lips. He's obedient, eager to please, smart, even-tempered and gentle. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and his human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take him. He can be a barker, so an apartment might not be the best home for him. Coco was an owner surrender and though we don't know the circumstances, we do know that he will make some family a wonderful little companion! If you're looking to add some sweetness to your home, please fill out an application today for Coco! He's eagerly waiting to hear from his forever people! Medical Note: Under clinical exam, this dog appears to have entropion(s) with no clinical symptoms; no medical action is recommended at this time. Entropion is a genetic condition in which a portion of the eyelid is inverted or folded inward. This can cause an eyelash or hair to irritate and scratch the surface of the eye, leading to symptoms such as tearing, light sensitivity and discomfort, and in some cases, corneal ulceration or perforation, or dark-colored scar tissue to build up over the wound (pigmentary keratitis), which could lead to a decrease or loss of vision. Entropion is fairly common in dogs and is seen in a wide variety of breeds, including short-nosed breeds, giant breeds, and sporting breeds. Surgical correction is an option, but not recommended if no symptoms present. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.
