    Breed: American Bulldog-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: Wakefield, RI
Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). “Furever Pawpals!” Adoption Event!!! Come meet me on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Rumford Pet Center in Warwick RI 02886, 1000 Bald Hill Rd., from 2-4 p.m. But don't wait! Fill out an application at least three days in advance to be pre-screened and gain exclusive entry to the event from 1-2 p.m. I’d LOVE to spend my furever with you!!! ;@ Age: 1 Year (as of 3/15/17) Weight: 56 lbs (as of 1/15/17) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Dodger is a HANDSOME BOY who appears to be a year old American Bulldog mix. He's your typical American Bulldog! As for his mix, we are going for sweet and awesome. He is muscular and built like a Mack truck. While he may look imposing, he is extremely good natured with people. True to the American Bulldog breed, he thrives on vigorous exercise to stay fit and happy. Dodger's perfect home would be an active adult household that is interested in developing his athletic abilities in weight pulling, obedience, agility, hunting, or farm work. He would also enjoy being outside and provided a variety of activities including walking, jogging, chasing balls, and advanced obedience. Dodger is looking for a home that will keep him active - being left home alone for a full workday would probably not sit well with him. Similarly, mental stimulation is going to play an important role in his well-being, so he should be given lots of durable "busy toys." Consistent exercise and stimulation are going to be very important in his new home, as will consistent basic and manners training to help ensure that he is a welcome addition to your family. As they say, "A tired dog is a good dog." and this is especially true with Dodger. Dodger learns quickly and will respect an owner who is equally confident and consistent. Active and playful, he loves people and craves constant attention. He can be dog selective. He is not reactive on a leash towards other dogs, but can get himself into trouble if he is off-leash with other dogs; he is not a dog park candidate. He can work or play all day long, and will happily curl up at your feet for a nice belly rub at the end of the day. Dodger is working on crate training, walks on a leash and will need a refresher in house training. He has started treadmill training and seems to be a natural; this is something that could be continued in his new home to help give him an outlet for his busy body. He has a sleek, easy-to-groom coat. While Dodger has been around children at events, he is just a bit too big and goofy for a home with small or young children. He has been around cats and seems curious about them. If he were to live in a home with cats, there would be a transition period and he would need firm guidance about boundaries. Obedience classes will be critical for Dodger and his new people, as these classes are a great way to bond as well as learn communication. If you're ready to make the big commitment to Dodger, then he's waiting to hear from you! Fill out an application today! Medical note: Sweet Dodger was hit by a car while he was running in traffic as a stray in Texas in October. He was lucky in that his injuries were mild. He had a mild shoulder fracture and road rash, which has healed with crate rest. Now he is looking to...well, get out of Dodge! He seems to have fully recovered from his injury and has no activity restrictions. As with all historical orthopedic injuries, pain medication or management therapies may be warranted in the future as the dog ages. Adoption Fee: $425 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.-+++

    Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: Warwick, RI
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier. Petey had a home. If you consider being tied out in the back yard as a puppy, not even a year old, having a home. With no regular attention, training, or socialization Petey was growing big and strong with no manners. At least his owner had the good sense to call K9 Savior Foundation, and ask for us to take this sweet boy, when she was afraid his high energy might “knock the kids down and hurt them”. At the rescue, Petey spent his first year learning from the best dog buddies he could find… Jack Black & Lady Belle, both wonderful PAWS Alumni. This gorgeous guy is the sweetest, most loving pup who ever lived! He’s a clown who LOVES to swim in the pond and play with other dogs at the rescue. He’s a fabulous “foster uncle” for the new puppies that come into the rescue. Running around showing them the ropes, and laying patiently while they crawl all over him. Petey needs to work on some house and leash manners, but he’s ready to find his forever family! He’s got a lifetime of love and slobbery kisses just waiting to share with some lucky someone! Name: Petey the Pit bull Breed: Pitbull Terrier Sex: Male Age: 2 years old Weight: approx 65 lbs Spayed/Neutered: Yes Vaccinations: Up to date as of 3/26/2016 Heartworm: Negative as of 3/26/2016 Microchipped: Will be before traveling BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS: Good with Dogs: Plays with dogs & puppies at the rescue with no issues. Good with Cats: Unknown Good with Kids: Unknown Adoption Donation: $200.00 IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Interested in a specific dog, please fill out an application if you are interested in a dog. The number of individual inquiries is overwhelming and we are finding it difficult to respond to each one. We cannot guarantee you will receive a timely response. Paws New England is a rescue, not a shelter, and as such we do not have our dogs housed in one location - they are in foster homes both in New England and in our southern foster homes. If you're interested in a specific dog, please complete a short online application and you will receive a reply within 48 hours so you can ask questions. At present, if a dog is listed on our website, the dog is considered still available HOWEVER, may have applications that have come in before yours but it's still too early to know if any are a good match; therefore we encourage you to apply. NOTICE WITH REGARD TO LOCATION OF DOGS: Please note: Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. We do not have a brick and mortar building to house the dogs we rescue. We have found that dogs in foster homes are much more adoptable because they have been observed in a home setting. Dogs listed with Paws New England typically reside in various locations throughout the south (primarily Tennessee, Texas, and Arkansas) and New England (not necessarily in the state of Rhode Island). You will be notified by the adoption coordinator of the location of the dog you are interested in so you have the ability to decide whether to pursue adoption or not. Dogs transported to New England are done so at a fee of $150.00 paid directly to the transporting company by Paws New England; no additional transport costs are responsibility of adopter. This fee is included in the adoption donation. Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary. Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your dog will help others in need. All known information about the animal is listed above. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and do not come with a known history. Opal River

    Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Baby
    Location: Wakefield, RI
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Age: 2.5 Months (as of 3/25/17) Weight: 24 lbs (as of 4/19/17) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Opal River! Opal is one of five females in our group of 7 River pups. We're not sure that the two boys are siblings of the five girls in the group, but they all appear to be Labrador Retriever mixes about 2.5 months old, and all are from rural Mississippi. The mother of the two boys appears to be a Yellow Lab and her owner believes the dad might be a lab mix. She said there were five in the litter and three of them were given away. The five girls were found under a bridge about the middle of March. Their rescuer tried to find homes for them, but no one wanted a puppy. She herself was going to keep one, but changed her mind at the last minute and surrendered them all to one of our southern rescue partners. Opal is a sweet, loving, friendly pup who's good with other dogs and would probably be fine with kids. She has not been introduced to kitty cats as of yet. Being typical puppies these little guys have so much to learn! They'll need house training, crate training (Opal has done fine while crated on car rides) and will need to learn to walk on a leash (working on it!). We strongly recommend that all our dogs - and especially puppies - attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and her human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take her. Though a fenced yard is an ideal place for your puppy to romp and play safely, if that’s not an option then lots of daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. Puppies are a lot of work and require a strong commitment to teaching them obedience, socializing them with other dogs and people, playing with them and loving them to pieces. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience to bring up a puppy - and it’s totally worth it! Opal River's a beautiful blonde girl with a pretty white stripe that goes from her nose to the top of her head! If you're ready to commit to Opal, she's ready to shower you with sweet puppy kisses and warm furry snuggles! Fill out an application today! Adoption Fee: $550 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. Posted Breed: Basset Hound. Otis is a handsome year and a half old purebred basset hound. Otis' original family adores him, but Otis does NOT adore one of the other dogs in the home. As heartbreaking as it is for them, the family has surrendered Otis to Paws New England so he can find his forever home. Otis loves to be petted, going for walks, and running wild in a fenced in area. He is very happy getting his belly scratched and cuddling. He doesn’t like getting in trouble and/or going into a crate. Otis is smart and knows sit, stay, leave it, focus, and come on command, particularly if he is reinforced by a treat. Typical of his breed, he can be very stubborn, but who can be angry at that adorable face? Otis has very sensitive skin, and is allergic to cortisone shots. Otis’s perfect home would be one where he is the only dog. Since he is very selective with other dogs, he is not a dog who can do play dates or dog parks, but he would be very happy to be with his person and will give lots of love in return. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Interested in a specific dog, please fill out an application if you are interested in a dog. Paws New England abides by the dog importation regulations set forth in the states of MA, CT, NH and RI.
