HOUSE TRAINED For the last four years, Edgar has brought nothing but joy and laughter to our family. He is full of personality, love, and affection. He has a lot of energy, while after sufficient exercise, he’s a big baby that loves to cuddle and snuggle. He’s very loyal, obeys commands, and is house trained. He also has no special dietary needs, and has only visited the Vet to update his shots. Edgar is a wonderful watch dog, protective and alert to any sounds in the night. He really must be half human because he tries to talk, and will often sing to the squeak of his toy or a siren in the distance. Update: Edgar is an absolutely gorgeous boy who needs a new home. He got into a fight with other dog in the house over a toy so needs a home as an only dog. Edgar is as sweet as they come. He is playful but not too hyper. He loves people. Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Baby
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $550. Age: 8 Months (as of 9/14/2017) Weight: 34 lbs (as of 9/14/2017) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Introducing the one and only - George Gorgeous! George and his sister GiGi Gorgeous came into rescue with sarcoptic mange and had to be treated at the vet until they were fully recovered. They are both now healthy and each are ready for a home of their own. They appear to be Lab mixes and was estimated to be around 1/11/2017. George has a beautiful red coat with some white. His eyes are a beautiful golden color...He is GORGEOUS! He is very friendly and playful with people. George sometimes can be overbearing with other dogs, play bite and rough wrestle. He does respond well to correction, especially with treats. George is more confident and outgoing than Gigi. He is protective over his sister, so they get separated during playtime. George likes to be loved on as much as he likes to play. George is good with older children, but he has not met any young or small ones. He also has not met any cats as of yet. George is in the process of crate training and leash training. He has not had any house training, so he needs an owner who will have the time, energy and patience to train him. Like all puppies, George will need obedience training so he will grow up to be a well behaved, confident and socialized adult dog. If you would love to have gorgeous George join your family, please fill out an application...It will be love at first sight! Adoption Fee: $550 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

    Adam Solis

    rescue
    Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $200. Age: 4 Years Weight: 66 lbs This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Handsome and shy, that's Adam Solis! He quickly overcomes that shyness though once he's been around you for just a couple of minutes! And though he never loses his cool and collected demeanor, he looks up at you once every minute to make sure you're still there. He LOVES being petted on the head and under his chin, and he loves to lean against you! Adam appears to be a Labrador Retriever mix about 4 years old. He's good with other dogs and with children - he showed no interest in the kitty cats in cages at the pet store he visited. He walks on a leash and will need to be house trained and crate trained. He did well in the car on his outing to the pet store - paced a little and looked out the windows. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and his human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take him. Adam's already mastered "sit" and can't wait to learn some more commands! He is extremely food motivated so he should respond well to training with food as his reward. (He did steal a chewy in the pet store, but hey! It was right there for the taking!) A fenced yard would be ideal for him, and it should be a high fence since he has shown himself to be a jumper and a climber. In all fairness, he only seems to try escaping if his kennel mate tries - Adam's definitely a follower. If a fenced yard isn't an option he will need lots of daily walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park which is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. Adam does like toys, is playful and can be a bit of a goof. He's really looking forward to finding his forever home with all the love and stability that he never had. If you can provide all the things that he's been dreaming of, fill out an application today! Adam's waiting just for you! Adam's Backstory: This sweet dog is one of several dogs rescued by SOS's partner, the Humane Society of Independence County, Arkansas, in August of 2016 from an outfit that claimed to be a "wildlife rehabilitation and rescue organization." Adam was confined in a very small cage with several other large breed dogs. The only access door to his cage had been barricaded and there was a ladder leaning against it so that someone could climb up and dump food onto the ground for the dogs to eat. Their water was infested with mosquito larvae and their pen was nothing but feces and mud. In addition to the rescued dogs, officials found a python, bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, and other wildlife housed on the property. The owner got 19 counts of misdemeanor for cruelty to animals, community service, fines, restitution, and jail time. Medical Note: This dog is being treated for heartworm disease with multiple staged melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted, estimated for mid-April 2017. SOS exclusively supports the American Heartworm Association protocol for heartworm disease. Before coming to SOSARL, heartworm treatment was attempted on this dog following another protocol, but was unsuccessful. Following AHS protocol takes more time and costs more money, but this dog is a living testament as to why that protocol is the standard. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog has shown no clinical symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. Sponsorship: This dog's heartworm treatment expenses have been made possible by a collaborative effort between the Humane Society of Independence County, AR, and the Martha Decker Memorial Fund for Animals special Heart Help project. Proper treatment for heartworm disease can take hundreds of dollars and several months - two precious resources that can be very hard to find for homeless dogs. To follow this dog's treatment story, and those of other Heart Help dogs, visit www.facebook.com/HWHeartHelp. Please consider supporting heartworm treatment of SOS dogs by donating today via PayPal.com to dogs@sosarl.org. Medical Note: Adam was accepted into the SOSARL program in early November after being rescued from a hoarding situation at an "animal sanctuary" in Arkansas. He came to us with a reported history of seizures as well as being heartworm positive. Once in our care, we observed these seizures approximately 2-5x/month and started Adam on 60mg of phenobarbital - we wanted to see if he could be controlled on this dosage level and the shelter schedule prior to implementing something different. (Many dogs will have break through seizure activity if their dosing is not exact. Fortunately, Adam is atypical and currently controlled with this dosing schedule.) Adam has been seizure-free on a low dose (90mg) of phenobarbital twice a day at 7:05am and 5:25pm. The ideal administration of phenobarbital is every 12 hours, so this schedule should be adjusted to 7am and 7pm, if at all possible. We expect that Adam will always need to be on this medication, but he has been well controlled even at this sub-therapeutic level while in our care. Our goal is to slightly increase his medication to have him in the lower end of the therapeutic range while continuing without side effects (unusual sedation or depression/lethargy - none have been seen to date). In addition to twice daily medication, Adam's phenobarbital level should be routinely tested annually for monitoring, and 2 - 4 weeks after adjusting medications. Phenobarbital can "induce" liver enzymes, so blood chemistry should be done annually to monitor for elevated liver enzymes. Sam-e or milk thistle can be given as a supplement as a liver protectant. Pricing of phenobarbital is hard to pin down but can be from $0.30-0.80 per 60mg tablet (for Adam at his current levels, this is approx $25-60/month). Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care in early 2017. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrlichiosis_(canine). Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. Adoption Fee: $200 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $550. Her eyes are a beautiful golden color...She is GORGEOUS! She is very friendly and playful with people. She loves to play with other dogs, but big brother George likes to step in and guard her from them. George isn't being mean or aggressive, he just thinks that's what big brothers are for! Gigi is a little less confident than her brother, so they get separated in play groups so they don't have to worry about each other. Gigi is mostly submissive but once in awhile she will show a little sass, but Gigi is very easy to redirect or correct, especially with treats around. Gigi is very affectionate, cuddly and eager to please. She loves to cuddle as much as she loves to play. She is a sporty girl, as she loves to swim, play fetch, go for walks, hike, go running, and she likes to dig (oh boy)! Gigi is good with older children, but she has not met any young or small ones. She also has not met any cats as of yet. Gigi is quiet and keeps the crate clean. She is doing okay leash walking, but she still needs a little more work on not pulling. She has not had any house training, so she needs an owner who will have the time, energy and patience to train her. Like all puppies, Gigi will need obedience training so she will grow up to be a well behaved, confident and socialized adult dog. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $550. Age: 7 Months (as of 9/14/2017) Weight: 18 lb (as of 9/14/2017) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Who is this happy little guy? This is Goose! Goose is a precious pup who can be a little handful at times. Goose has the habit of play biting new people, but he learns quickly and you can see from the video that he is pretty easily redirected with treats. Goose appears to be a German Shepherd Dog mix that was born around 2/18/2017. Goose loves to play, especially with other dogs. He can forget his manners sometimes and will be nippy and will play too rough when wrestling. He does respect correction quickly, especially when food is involved. Goose sometimes needs to be redirected around cats, but he does well. Goose loves meeting new people and to go to new places. He loves children, but he may knock over little ones. He loves to play with squeaky toys, going for walks, and he loved cuddling on a loving lap. Goose will need to be house trained and he is currently working on crate training and leash walking. We recommend for Goose to attend obedience training so he can get the proper training on how to be a good puppy that will grow up to be a well behaved adult dog. Goose and his brother Maverick came into rescue tiny and hairless. They were treated for sarcoptic mange and both healed well. Maverick has since been adopted and loving life in his own home with his own family. It's now Goose's turn to find his fur-ever home. If you would like Goose to join your home, please fill out an application and maybe you will be loving Goose soon!
