  • Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix Dog For Adoption in Wakefield, RI, USA

    Steve

    rescue
    Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $425. Age: 2 Years Weight: 50 lbs This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Hey, Steve! Welcome to SOS! We hear you're looking for a fun, very active human family or individual to spend forever with! Well, we're here for ya and we'll put your bio out there! Steve appears to be a Labrador Retriever/Terrier mix about 2 years old, and just the yummiest milk chocolate color! He's always on and ready for action, but when playtime's done he's okay with hanging out and chilling. Toys - especially balls - are great fun, and being toy and treat motivated should make training a snap. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes and this will be especially important for Steve. He's got LOTS of energy and will need a strong leader and consistent training, as well as lots of exercise, in order to be the well-mannered boy we know he can be. A fenced yard is the ideal safe place for your pup to romp and play, but if Steve hasn't had enough exercise and gets bored, he'll climb the fence and seek adventure. If a fenced yard isn't an option, then LOTS of daily leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a dog park is the next best thing. Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental exercise - think puzzle toys, busy feeders, treat dispensing toys, and games. Steve will need to be house trained and crate trained. He walks on a leash and will need continued work on this, as he tends to pull when he's excited. He's good with other dogs and is able to be distracted or redirected when small animals (i.e., kitties, etc.) are encountered. His reaction is playful when meeting children - his exuberance may be too much for small children, who may be accidentally knocked down. So...if you're looking for an energetic walking, jogging, running partner, and a pup who wants to be as active as you are, fill out an application today for Steve! He'll try and be patient while he waits for you. Steve's Backstory: He was rescued by an Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) supporter and of the 250 dogs at the rescue, almost every time someone walks in the back, they ask about him. His happy, puppy energy and bright eyes tend to draw people in. He'll make a great dog for some lucky individual or family! Adoption Fee: $425 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $425. “THANKFUL for DOGS” Adoption Event!!! Come meet me on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Bow chika Wow Town in Warwick RI 02886, 27 Meadow St., from 2 to 4 p.m. Don't wait! Save time and take me home sooner! Fill out an application at least three days in advance to be pre-screened and gain exclusive entry to the event from 1-2 p.m. You’ll be so THANKFUL you came to meet me! ;@ Age: 1 Year (as of 10/01/17) Weight: 50 lbs (as of 8/30/17) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Did someone say Taco? Everyone loves a taco and everyone is going to love our Taco! He's an absolute sweetheart and a fabulous dog! He appears to be a Blue Heeler and Black Labrador Retriever mix. He is the size and build of his mom who was the Blue Heeler, but he has the coloring of a Black Lab. His siblings were adopted through SOS several months ago, but Taco was kept by the mother's owners in Arkansas. He recently started to chase their cattle, and they did not want to tie him up, but instead thought about shooting him. The neighbor contacted our southern rescue partner so he would be safe. Taco gets along well with other dogs, especially with females. This is most likely because he lived with his mother since birth. He puts up with his kennel-mate's antics - she bites on his ears, jumps on him and does everything possible to get him to roughhouse. His sweet mother taught him well and he doesn't react to her! We do not know how he is with cats or children. It took him a few more days to trust and not to be shy with his male caretaker than his female caretaker. He now LOVES to be petted by both! He is currently staying in an indoor/outdoor kennel and has not experienced "home-life." He will most likely need to be house trained, crate trained and leash trained. He will need a family who will be prepared for some herding dog characteristics and is willing to work with a trainer. He will need slow socialization to a human environment, which includes house manners and training. This may be a 2-5 month transition period. He is somewhat apprehensive in new situations. Taco would do best in a home that doesn't have a lot of chaos and people coming and going, at least not for the first few months, so he can take it slow and go at his own pace. He would likely do best in a household with another well-balanced dog. He does not seem dominant but does stand up for himself. He did growl at the dog in the next kennel when she got too near his dish, but he and his kennel mate will eat of the same dish. He is quiet and does not play much. He rides well, while crated, in the car. Caution will need to be taken around open doors or gates as he may try to escape out of fear. He may need a little more TLC than other dogs, but the payback will be so rewarding knowing that you saved him and changed his life forever. He'll be a wonderful dog for someone wanting a loving, young dog and who will be willing to teach him all the basics. He still has a lot to learn. For his age, he's very gentle. He hardly barks, doesn't jump on people, and loves to sit by some of the older dogs and watch some of the younger ones act crazy, or just be puppies. If you would like adopt Taco, and give him a home and the love he deserves, please fill out an application. You may not be able to change Taco's past, but you can rewrite his future! Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741 . Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. Posted Breed: Pointer / Beagle / Mixed (short coat). You’ll be so THANKFUL you came to meet me! ;@ Age: 1 year old Weight: 51 lbs Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Mister B's looking for you! This handsome dude appears to be a Pointer/Beagle mix about 1 year old. Don't be fooled by his pictures - he is actually smaller than he appears. He's a quiet, sensitive boy. He loves to play with other dogs, and doesn't hold grudges or take cheap shots. He plays very nicely in daycare groups daily, and enjoys romping with others his size. He would love to have a canine buddy in his new home, and would make a great side kick for a well-settled dog. Mister B is unassuming and sweet. He is gentle and affectionate with people, and can be shy at first. He can be very shy of men, but will warm up with time and gentleness. Daily exercise and stimulation of about 1-2 hours will help keep his mind fulfilled, and he would love daily cuddles, too. He is looking for a sensitive leader who can also convey confidence and help him build his confidence in men, strangers and the world. He hasn't experienced too much, so his new people should be patient and prepared to help him learn new things in small doses and with lots of great treats. He would probably do best in a home without kitty cats. He barks whenever he sees his fosters' cats and attempts to chase them. He may be just curious to check them out, but they run and hide so we can't be sure. He would likely do well in a household with respectful, quiet children, though he has never lived with children. He does tend to get "mouthy" and so would probably not be a good fit for a home with small children. He would not do well in a very busy household with lots of people coming and going. He does appear to be house trained, he's totally crate trained, and walks decently on a leash. He hasn't shown much interest in toys, but he's affectionate and gentle, and loves gentle pets and cuddles from his humans. He rides nicely in the car when crated (he does NOT ride well uncrated), and is interested in going to new places once he has had a little time to adjust. He has been working on his "sit" and would love to show you. A fenced yard is not required for him, though that would be a great safe place to practice his skills and run zoomies. He would benefit from several daily leash walks and regular opportunities for off-leash play in a dog park - a tired dog is a good dog, they say! Puzzle toys and games can provide some of the mental stimulation that Mister B enjoys. He's very suspicious of recirculating water dishes, so just an old-fashioned water bowl will do for him! Mister B's History: Mister B and his two canine siblings (already adopted) were left in the house when his previous owner moved away. He'd like some assurance that you'll be his forever people, and he promises to love you forever. If you can do this for him, fill out an application today! Mister B promises he'll be your forever buddy. Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrlichiosis_(canine) . This happy-faced girl is Janie! Janie was surrendered to a local Tennessee shelter when her owner passed away. She was pregnant at the time and had 13 beautiful puppies, some of whom have already been adopted. Janie appears to be a Treeing Walker Coonhound about 2 years old. She walks on a leash, but will need continued work. She pulls very hard, especially when she's on a scent or sees a neighbor's dog she wants to play with. She is working diligently on her house training (she needs to go out immediately after eating) and will need to be crate trained. Currently she sleeps on the couch with her foster siblings with no issues. She's good with kids of all ages, and is fine with dogs of all sizes, but can play rough or be goofy in play so may accidentally injure a very small dog. She's VERY interested in her foster's cats, but not aggressive with them at all, in spite of being swatted a couple of times. She has LOTS of energy and is very playful - she would greatly benefit from having a fenced yard to play in, wander around in, and explore. She dearly wants a canine sibling or younger kids to play with! If a yard is not an option, she'll need daily leash walks and opportunities for off-leash time in a dog park. Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental exercise - think puzzle toys, busy feeders and games - and since she kind of likes to tear things up when she has nothing else to do, she's gonna need some of these. Janie thinks it would be a great idea to also take obedience classes together! You know, learn some cool stuff, gain some self-confidence, get in a little socialization with new dogs and people, and of course, some quality bonding time with her own people! She's smart, obedient, affectionate and eager to please, so this is highly recommended - she'll most likely ace the class. She is still very nervous meeting new people - she shivers and stands still - so class should really help. She may be timid at first with her new family, but once she's settled in she'll warm up just as she's doing with her foster family. Janie's dreaming of a new forever home, now that her puppies don't need her. Would you like your home to be graced by this beautiful southern belle? Fill out an application today and let's not make her wait one day longer! A big SOS welcome to Goldy! She appears to be a boxer and shepherd mix about one year old. Goldy has asked SOS to find her an active, fun forever home and we are happy to oblige! She is eager to learn new things and to please, and always ready for the next adventure. She likely lived a very sheltered life prior to coming to SOS, so she is still learning about, and becoming comfortable with, the active human environment. She is making great progress, but is still easily overstimulated by new things; her new home should plan to take things slow with her, and manage all new situations carefully so that she can continue to create positive associations and learn proper responses to new things. She would do best in a home with one or several adults who are strong leaders, and offer a consistent routine where she will get at least one hour of focused exercise per day - think hikes, walks, runs, tricks, agility. Inside the home after her walks, she's a calm, well-mannered girl. She loves to cuddle up and watch a good movie! She LOVES to play with toys and will entertain herself for hours with a ball, tossing it to herself! She would enjoy the company of a playful canine sibling, but would also likely do very well as an only dog so she can have all your attention and affection. She's doing well with house training and leash training. She is very strong, but does not pull and walks nicely on an Easy Walk harness when she is given clear guidance. Goldy does not require a yard but does need regular daily exercise and mental stimulation. Group training classes are a must for Miss Goldy, and will also help her understand what is expected of her, help her bond with her new family, and help both learn how to effectively communicate with each other. She would also thrive with additional training like brain games, scent work, agility, etc. She has a very active mind, and is very eager to please and do whatever you want her to do - she just needs to be told what that is! With training, patience, and a regular schedule, she will thrive and blossom into the fun adventure dog she is meant to be. Can you give Goldy the commitment and adventure she needs? This lovebug will reward you with endless love and friendship for years to come! Apply now! Goldy's Backstory: Goldy was brought to an Arkansas shelter as a stray early in January 2017 by the Sheriff's Department and Animal Control. When she arrived at the shelter, she was skin and bones, but she has filled out nicely and is an ideal weight at 54 lbs. Sydney at your service! This beautiful, gentle girl appears to be a Labrador Retriever mix about a year old. She's awesome with children. She can be a jumper-upper with adults, but when she met a 6, 4 and 1 year old, she didn't jump on them at all. She got down and rolled on her back as they approached. She has done the same thing when a toddler approached her out on a walk. She's very sweet with kids! She's very playful and a really fun dog to have around! Throw a ball or take her for a walk and you are her best friend. She has a ton of energy and a fenced yard would be ideal for her. She can be a bit of an escape artist and can scale pens and fences, so she should not be left unsupervised out in the yard. She definitely needs to be kept busy with lots of toys. She's very much a Labrador even though she's a mix - she is outgoing, happy-go-lucky, and ready for the next adventure. Some of her favorite things are toys, playing fetch, walks and playgroups with familiar dogs. She has shown some reactivity to other dogs she meets while out walking on leash. She' s good at getting all the attention - if she's with people, she wants all the attention focused on her! She's sweet and loves to cuddle. She has been crated when left alone and has shown some separation anxiety and at first was very vocal when left. A Kong toy filled with peanut butter and various busy feeders seem to help with this. She is a big chewer, but responds well to correction and redirection to one of her own toys. She's needs the heavy-duty chew toys so that she can't get pieces off of them and swallow them. Sydney has shown interest in cats as though she might want to play with them, but is easily redirected to something else. The same goes for small animals that may be encountered out on a walk. She likes to play with other dogs and does well in her foster home with multiple other dogs. She can be a little overwhelming for some dogs at first, as she is eager to play and is still learning proper play etiquette. She can be energetic herself, but does not like overly energetic dogs. She would do best in a home that is familiar with dog-dog interactions and possibly another well-balanced adult dog who can continue her socialization education. With the right human guidance and mix of dogs, She would benefit from well managed visits to the dog park or small playgroups, as well as 1-2 hours of exercise and stimulation a day through leash walking, training, and play at home. Sydney is a whiz, and learns new things at an amazing rate - she would be a great candidate for further training. She's calm and rarely barks, affectionate and outgoing. She doesn't mind chilling out after an activity. She is house trained, crate trained and walks well on a leash. She knows "sit" and "down" and would whiz through obedience classes. She's eager to please and respects commands and corrections. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend basic obedience because it's a great way for the humans to learn how to teach commands and also affords another opportunity for bonding - Sydney would thrive with this additional attention. Sydney was found laying by the side of the road, covered in ticks and with a large abscess on one cheek, which is healing well. This happy, gentle-spirited sweetheart is wondering who her forever people or person will be. If you'd like to be considered for the position, please fill out an application today. He's also quite handsome with his delicious chocolate colored coat with a bit of white icing here and there! Zippy appears to be a Dachshund/Terrier mix about 11 months old. He LOVES playing with other dogs and has made many friends in daycare at Bow chika Wow Town. He has played well with respectful children that have come to visit. H e's currently living in a kennel situation, so he'll need a refresher course on house training and leash training; he is crate trained and rides well in the car when crated. These little princesses are part of the Queen litter! Their mom, Lizzie Queen, a super gentle, street-smart dog who roams the neighborhood looking for attention, has been living as a stray for several years. She has no one who really claims her as their own. She's had three litters of puppies in the last two years and these 4 little girls are the last of her latest litter (and last litter - she'll be spayed and also looking for her forever home soon). Though a fenced yard is the ideal safe place for your puppy to romp and play, if that's not an option then plenty of daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park is the next best thing. Dogs of all ages benefit from mental exercise, too - think puzzle and treat dispensing toys, and games. Teo has an almost all white face with cute brown ears, and a small brown patch right on the top of her head. She also has beautiful blue eyes! She doesn't necessarily need a castle, but just wants someone to love her to bits - and a nice, comfy bed might be nice, too! If you have the time, patience and energy to devote to the bringing up of Teo Queen, please fill out an application today. Oh ya, and maybe have a jar of treats ready, jus' sayin'. Adoption Fee: $550 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.

    Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Baby
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $550. Age: 10 Months (as of 11/5/17) Weight: 28 lbs (as of 8/1/17) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Hey there...What's up? I'm Ritz and I'm super happy because they tell me that I'm ready for a home of my own. Unfortunately I had a "ruff" start to life. I was left in a sketchy part of a town to fend for myself. I knew if I kept on going up to people and showed them how sweet and outgoing I really am that someone would help me. Sure enough someone did! They all love me here and say I'm their favorite. They say I look like a Lab mix that was probably born earlier this year. I like playing and rough housing with the other dogs here and I like to be naughty and bark at the kitties. I haven't lived with young children but when I meet any I love to play with them. I am young still though and when I get excited I tend to jump up on people, so I might accidentally knock little ones down. I haven't been house trained yet but I am quiet and keep my crate clean. I like to take walks but my leash walking skills are just not there yet. I tend to zigzag but I'm getting better everyday. It will be great if you can take me to obedience training so I can grow up to be a well behaved canine citizen. Trust me, when I was on the streets I seen some messed up dogs with attitudes and that's not cool! I know raising a puppy can be a lot of work but think how much fun we can have playing and my favorite - CUDDLING! Hurry and fill out an application! I can't wait to find what the humans here call my "forever home." They say I'm just too happy and sweet not to love! I'll make a great addition to any family! Can it be yours?
