Statistics Name: Kitsy Breed: German Shepherd Age: 7 Months Size: Large (Once fully grown) ~ Large range: 61-100 lbs Adoption Donation: $180 (applicable sales tax included). Adoption fees may be paid with cash or check. Other: Spayed Female *, Vaccinations current, Microchip *Kitsy has a congenital condition called scoliosis. Her spine is a shallow half-moon shape from T1-T8 and slightly rotated to the one side. The good news is that her hips look great on x-ray and her neck is actually straight, but her spine, of course, makes her body curve slightly to the one side so when she walks, you do notice a little twist in her step. Over time, she will likely experience abnormal wear and tear on her joints. She is ambulatory and appears not to be in any pain, so no surgery or treatment was recommended. Kitsy is learning about all kinds of new things... Foster Home Feedback 11/13/17: Kitsy is doing great on her potty training. She’s had zero accidents in the past 2-3 weeks! That being said, I do let her out frequently, every 3 hours usually and up to five hours on the overnight. Kitsy has a lot of puppy energy and would love a fenced in yard. She gets along well with other dogs and loves to play! Because of her scoliosis, I just don’t allow her to get too rambunctious & I allow her to play with dogs her size or smaller. Kitsy’s a happy go lucky puppy and will need continued training when it comes to mouthing and jumping up. Overall, she is a great puppy and super sweet. 10/28/17: Kitsy is a happy, playful puppy who is about 36 lbs. She is kennel trained and is doing very well when it comes to being potty trained. She is young and still needs to be let out every few hours though to avoid accidents. Kitsy has a lot of energy and loves to run and play. Because of her scoliosis, I make sure she doesn’t play rough with bigger dogs, and I treat her as a little more fragile. Other than that, she currently has no other special needs for her spine issues other than trying to encourage her to look or direct her attention the other direction occasionally. Kitsy gets along with everyone and everything (dogs, pigs, and chickens included!), but is very playful. Kitsy will need consistent training and patience while she catches up on everything! She is overall a happy go lucky puppy, but she does get nervous on the leash and in the car and will need positive training to help come out of her shell in new environments. At home, Kitsy just wants to play, and you’d never guess that she gets shy in public. She’s doing good on potty training but I do not let her run around the house until after she goes outside. I let her out every two hours, except at night. She is very food motivated, making the basic training much easier. Kitsy would be a good fit for you if you have time for some training. At this time, Kitsy would also require a mid-day let out if you work days, and not have her crated for 9-10 hours without getting outside, so that her potty training progression doesn't backslide. Kitsy is adorable and lovable and her quirky walk just makes her more special - please think about giving this sweet girl love and a home of her own for the many years ahead of her.
