Airedale Terrier-Unknown Mix Dogs For Adoption in Salt Lake City, UT, USA

Posted Breed: Terrier / Airedale Terrier / Mixed. Hey there! My name is Barbossa (like the pirate!). Don’t let my lack-of-leg fool you, I can do anything that those 4-legged dogs can do! I’

;m a spunky and spry 2-year old that loves to play fetch, tug of war, and kill my squeaky toys. I’m 100% trustworthy when left alone in the house and let you know when I have to go outside to go potty. I love big squishy dog beds and laying by the side of the couch while you watch TV. I’m a pretty mellow guy inside but love to go play when we can outside. My foster family tells me I’m a “Good Boy” all the time! I’ve had a crazy few months and am ready to settle down and find my forever home. I’m definitely a “Guys Dog”. I get along with everyone but I am much more comfortable with men than I am with women. In my ideal home, I would find an active couple that likes to go out hiking and camping (once my leg is healed up, of course!). I can’t be around kitties because I want to eat them so my new family can’t have cats. Since I hurt my leg, I’ve been really protective of it and will need to go to training classes with a balanced trainer so I can learn how to comfortably re-socialize with dogs again. So for now, I need to be adopted as an only dog so I can focus on my recovery. Now I know you’re all thinking this: “What kind of dog is he?!” I get asked that a lot. Honest answer is, I don’t really know. I could tell you I’m a fancy breed like a “Griffon Nivernais”...But, I’m probably not. I’m just a really really cute mixed breed! Barbossa is from an area where heart worm is very common and will need to be on heart worm prevention for life. *Dogs are not placed on a first come first serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
