screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting. ***** Myles is 7yo, weigh 115lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccinations, and is not microchipped. He knows the following commands: sit; stay; paw; down; and place. Myles dislikes/fears loud noises, 'and is the only time he really barks'. Myles loves riding in the car. Myles's guardian adds: " He loves his walks and loves treats even more! He is very protective of his loved ones and should be the only dog. He did live with a French bulldog and Yorkie and was very gentle with them but we do not think that would be the case going into a new home. Would just rather be safe as he has had some aggression towards other dogs in the past. He would of course love a yard to run around in but we don’t think it’s absolutely necessary as he walks very well on a leash and is not reactive at all while walking, unless of course someone gets too close as again, he is very protective. If you welcome someone into your home he is very friendly and loving towards them, he loves to give hugs!! " Myles's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him: "Myles went to live with my ex when we split up 4 years ago. He was relocated for work to Miami FL and it was a horrible situation for Myles in a high rise apartment in Miami. I took him so he wouldn't end up in a shelter but I cannot keep him as I have 4 dogs of my own and one of them has been in a fight with Myles before and they hate each other." SCRATCH INCIDENT: In August 2023, in Miami, FL, Myles scratched someone, which didn't break the skin, medical intervention was not necessary and Animal Control was not involved. Myles's guardian explains: "Someone was trying to pet his frenchie brother in the apartment building. His own shouldn't have let anyone pet either of them as he is protective." Myles's guardian states the following regarding children: Myles hasn't lived with children and since he's been around older children, his guardian recommends his living with older children. Myles's guardian states the following regarding dogs: Myles has lived with dogs, but his guardian doesn't recommend his living with dogs, stating "I have not allowed him to interact at all as I'm not comfortable". Myles's guardian states the following regarding cats: Myles hasn't lived with or otherwise been around cats, so his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats. Myles's guardian describes him as: Couch potato Quiet Playful Likes to be touched Affectionate Independent Protective Indoor dog House-Trained Likes men Likes women Myles's guardian describes his ideal future home: "Myles future home will continue to feed him the diet he has been eating (half Iams kibble and half Ollie's fresh food). He, of course, would love a fenced in backyard to run around, but it’s not absolutely necessary as he is a huge couch potato. And just someone to show him the love and attention he deserves on a daily basis. Rehoming Fee: None Location: Hanover, MD ***** ADOPTION PROCESS 1. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
