Bea is a 10 year old (birthday is 6/1/2008) husky mix who found herself in a rough spot in November 2017. Her previous owner was hospitalized and couldn't care for her anymore, and the rest of the family wanted to euthanize her because she had a hard time getting around the house. Bea was 63lbs when I brought her home with me on 11/11/2017. She was MORBIDLY obese,over 50% body fat, and couldn't walk more than 10-15ft without needing to lay down for a rest. She couldn't go up and down the stairs. She couldn't get on the couch or into the car. Today (6/14/2018) she weighs 38lbs with strict diet and exercise. She can run, jumps for treats, goes up and down the stairs, and can walk all the way around the block without a rest. She's a firecracker now! She does well with kids, dogs and cats. I'd recommend older children because she will steal snacks ;) she walks nicely on a leash, and wiggles when you come home from work. She does well crated or free roam, but does have thunderstorm anxiety. She is up to date on all vaccines and veterinary treatments. Heartworm and tick disease negative. She's a sweetheart who just wants to relax the day away with you and a chewy toy. A home check and vet check will be performed. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it’s like to have them live in your home. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet

  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
