I am 2-year old happy, bouncy malamute. I came to Pet Angels from the Muskogee shelter after my room needed to be vacated. I have not been here long but I will say, I am absolutely ready to run. If you can think of any attribute of a malamute or a husky, I probably have it. Hyper? Yes. In your face? Yup. A little stubborn? 100%. Full of energy harvested from the sun? Absolutely. With all that being said, I will probably need to go to a home that is familiar with working with my kind. I am not 'first dog' material. I am seasoned veteran northern breed owning material. I will need room to run out my energy and a family to harness that energy into proper channels so I'm not just destroying everything in sight. A home with active runners would be nice. And since it's still chilly outside, I will be able to keep up with you for long distances. Even though I have not been here long, the staff here can take well-educated guesses of how I will be in the future. I need secure fencing so I am not gallivanting through the streets and I will need plenty of exercise every single day. Health Note: Sadly Cinnamon tested positive for heartworms during her wellness check up and she will start treatment soon under the cost of the rescue. She would much rather go through or finish this process in a loving home instead of a kennel run alone. Heartworms is completely treatable and avoidable if her owners had kept her on prevention. Sadly once contracted it requires quite time and crate rest for about 30 days. SO no running romping and being crazy. Other dogs in the home will not be at risk as long as they are on Heartworm prevention. Check out this website for more info .heartwormsociety/heartworm-positive-dogs Cinnamon has started treatment for heartworms on 2/24 and will be done with exercise restrictions on 3/24/20 House Manners: Cinnamon keeps a clean indoor kennel, she is being stubborn on learning the doggie door so we have it propped open. Basic Training: Cinnamon has a lot of wound up energy with all the kennel time she has had with the transition into the shelter animal life. Once we get some energy burned off we will learn more about her basic manners. Right now she just wants attention and pets when you interact with her. Other Dogs: We have not seen any concerning behaviors wither and other dogs, but she is still recovering from her spay surgery so she won't have free range for play for about 2 weeks. Cats: Unknown, will evaluate soon Kids: Unknown, will evaluate soon Fencing: Most dogs of this breed require secure 6ft fencing. All of our Husky/Northern breeds require fence photos if you have a yard so we give tips on containment if needed. You can quicken your adoption process by sending us some yard pics, focusing on the fence lines and gates after you send your application. This breed typically does better with a yard but we may have some Northern breeds or mixes that would be suited for apartments etc. please just ask. Please keep in mind if you want to own a husky you need to be open to the fact that containing this dog may require you to install a hot wire system (cost approx $100) this is quite often needed to preventing digging climbing or chewing through fences. A Hot wire is typically the best route to start with for a peace of mind. Installation is simple and can be done in under 2 hours on most yards. Northern breeds are beautiful dogs but are also a challenge and demanding and can be very destructive and hard to contain when their needs are not met. Please learn a little more about the breed on our home page. Also we likely have other Huskies or Malamutes for adoption find out by visiting .petangelsrescue. The adoption fee is $150. This dog has had its age appropriate Vaccinations brought up to date with Rabies shot (4 m & older), heartworm tested (4 m & older) and/or started on prevention, basic dewormer, spayed or neutered and microchipped by 24Petwatch with free registration , and also comes with 30 days of free 24Petwatch Pet Insurance . Important PLEASE read if interested in adoption: Please submit an Pre-Adoption Application by clicking our logo button below (if visible) or visiting .petangelsrescue to show your interest in adoption (Only submit one app). This questionnaire simply helps inform us if the dog you are interested in might match your families dynamics based on what we have learned about that dog. All of our pets at Pet Angels Rescue are featured on our independent website and can be accessed from our PETS FOR ADOPTION PAGE, you may want to look at others at our facility you like as well. We do not have staffed phones for questions, please visit these pages on our main web site, Before You Adopt & Adoption Process & App. if you don't find the information you are needing please submit a E-mail. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
