ription. Ella is between 1 1/2 - 2 years of age and LOVES, LOVES, LOVES her humans! Ella is spayed, heart-worm negative, on heart-worm preventative, crate and house trained, happy and healthy and looking for a home with no other dogs, cats or animals. She wants and absolutely deserves all the human attention she can get. She snorts like a piglet and will play with you all day (in between her naps on your lap) if let her. Ella was abandoned when her family moved and left her and her brother (or son, we're not sure of the relationship) behind. They sat on the porch for days before finally moving into the woods to search for food. We don't know how long they lived in the woods but we're aware of a minimum of 2 months. A good Samaritan started putting food out for them and they would wait until dark to sneak out and eat and dart back into the safety of the woods. They were eventually tricked into a yard and caught and taken immediately to vet to be taken care of. Hence, the reason we say no other animals for this duo. We don't know what they went through while trying to survive so for everyone's safety, they will not be placed in home with cats or other animals. Its obvious that they she was loved at one point and lived in a home as she 'moved right in and sat on a chair' and finally started decompressing and becoming a dog again. If you are interested in giving Ella her happily ever after, please submit an adoption application at www.americanbulldogrescue.org so we can see if she would be a good fit for you and your family. Please also note: No one will be considered without first submitting an adoption application. Our dogs are in homes and only approved adopters can meet them. Once approved, you can meet any dog you like that would be a good fit for you/your family. PLEASE READ: Adopters will not be considered without completing an application. Please visit www.AmericanBulldogRescue.org to apply! Remember - Adoption is always the best option! If you can't help by adopting a homeless pet, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to American Bulldog Rescue, 4 Terry Drive, Suite 1D Newtown, PA 18940 or paypal AmericanBulldogRescue@verizon.net. We cannot place dogs in homes with children under 10 unless that dog has lived with kids or is in a foster home with kids. Thank you. To be considered for adoption, you must apply using our free, online application. Our dogs are fostered in our volunteers' homes, not in a central shelter/location. Only approved applicants are put into contact with the foster family to setup a meeting with the foster dog. Visit our Adoption Policies web page for more information and a link to our application: http://americanbulldogrescue.org/adoption-policies/.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
