A Nicknames: Good with other dogs?: Dog selective. Iris does well most of the time with her foster canine sister but is having spats more and more. It’s becoming clear that Iris would do best as an only dog. Her foster mom’s theory is that Iris was just bred and bred and never really had a good relationship with other dogs. She spent her entire life having puppies and taking care of them never giving her the opportunity to establish herself and form good doggie behavior. Good with cats? no Good with children?unknown, will not be adopted to a home with kids under 15 Activity Preference: Will go with the flow, Champion couch potato, “Energy, do you mean like walking to my food bowl?” IQ: Smart Iris Elizabeth’s favorite things: Iris loves people, stuffies, bones, belly rubs, and ear scratches! Iris Elizabeth is good at: meeting people, staying in a crate, behaving in the house, cuddling Ideal home: no children, quiet environment, a fenced yard Training Needs: Health issues: Iris has dilated cardiomyopathy. What is it? DCM is a disease of the heart muscle that results in weakened contractions and poor pumping ability. As the disease progresses the heart chambers become enlarged, one or more valves may leak, and signs of congestive heart failure develop. Iris is asymptomatic. Dogs with DCM can live a full happy life. She also has severe elbow and hip dysplasia. She’s doing very well with daily supplements and pain medications. She also underwent a gold wire therapy procedure (just like the one our Timmy T had) and it's given her a bit more pep in her step! MEET IRIS ELIZABETH Iris is a beautiful Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog. She’s got a beautiful blue merele coat (although it looks black to me LOL). One eye is a crystal blue and the other the deepest soulful brown. The most beautiful part about her pure heart. She’s obviously been used for breeding and hasn’t had an easy beginning. Iris is probably no older than 4 but her hard life makes her appear older. Iris’ only desire in life is to give love and get love. She is the best cuddle bug! She likes to hang in the kitchen and watch all the action hoping to be the taste tester! When greeting you returning home from work or even just waking in the morning, Iris is so happy to see you! She will grab a favorite stuffy and prance around with a wagging tail to celebrate your return! She gives out kisses by the dozen! Iris is learning to not be afraid of noises like the vacuum and hair dryer. She lets you cut her nails, give her a bath and clean her ears. She waits patiently (drooling) while watching you to prepare her meals. After eating she’ll go out and go potty. DCM will probably shorten her life, but we never know how long any of us will be here. It’s not a death sentence at all! She’s totally asymptomatic and lives a perfectly normal life. Her orthopedic issues can also be managed. She’s very comfortable and happy. We know that Iris will need a very special adopter who is ready to welcome her into their hearts and home to help Iris live her best life!
