s foster family in Cocoa, FL! My foster family also calls me Moofy or Moofin. I am now spayed so no more babies for me! My foster family tells everyone that I'm so sweet and loving. But don't tell anyone. It will ruin my "grumpy dog image" with my huge underbite. I'm not fond of my crate and will pant at first but eventually I just lay down and relax. Most of the time I get to go to work with my foster family. They spoil me and I get to meet all types of people. I'm only weighing in at 80 pounds right now but my foster family says my bmi is a little under what it should be right now. When I'm all done catching up on some lost meals I should be a full figured beauty weighing in at 90-95 pounds. I don't mind smaller dogs, but girls my size.... I have to make sure they are going to like me. Once I know they aren't jealous or out to get me, we are ok. I don't do well with bossy dogs. I'm a queen and after all I've been through, I'm going to retain this status. I've also met a few cats in my life, never really paid them attention. My foster family has 3 two legged children and boy can they be loud! Especially if they have friends over! I'm not sure how my foster parents do it but I love the children. All of them. I just love all people! Don't tell anyone but I don't worry to much about my health! Exercise! Haha, who has time for that when you could just take a nap or eat!!! I get a little excited over food....what girl doesn't? I do a dance when it is time to eat and get so excited I start sneezing all over the place! My foster family laughs so much when I do this. I love car rides and going to work with foster mom and dad. I do know how to sit, but that's about it. If you haven't noticed I have the most desirable under bite! I am told it is the best! Well I need a nap after all this but I was told to get myself out there so people can see me! Much love! xoxo xoxo moofin PLEASE READ: Adopters will not be considered without completing an application. Please visit www.AmericanBulldogRescue.org to apply! It is our policy at American Bulldog Rescue not to place the same gender dogs in a home. Adoptions are most successful and harmonious with opposite genders. Please also note: No one will be considered without first submitting an adoption application. Our dogs are in homes and only approved adopters can meet them. Once approved, you can meet any dog you like that would be a good fit for you/your family. To be considered for adoption, you must apply using our free, online application. Our dogs are fostered in our volunteers' homes, not in a central shelter/location. Only approved applicants are put into contact with the foster family to setup a meeting with the foster dog. Visit our Adoption Policies web page for more information and a link to our application: http://americanbulldogrescue.org/adoption-policies/.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
