names: Zeuski, Moose Good with other dogs?: Yes. Zeus enjoys the company of other dogs and would love a canine play mate. He can be pretty happy meeting a new dog. Good with cats? yes Good with children? yes Activity Preference: Low maintenance overall but needs quality outside time. IQ: Smart Zeus's favorite things: Bones, peanut butter, balls, car rides. CATS! Zeus is good at: meeting people, behaving in the house, going for car rides, walking on a leash, cuddling Ideal home: another dog, a fenced yard, other: cat Training Needs: Health issues: Zeus' previous owner said Zeus has food allergies. He looked pretty uncomfortable when he first came to foster with us. On a grain free, pea free diet, his skin has cleared up. Benadryl helps with flare ups. Meet Zeus There are so many wonderful things to say about this big moose of a dog. He was surrendered by his family during a divorce. It's sad think about this amazing companion doing nothing wrong to lose his family but he deserves more care and attention than what he was getting. Zeus is a lovable, cuddly dog. He's a great companion who loves to snuggle in on the couch. He'll also obey if he's not allowed on the couch but, come on, he deserves a nice, cushy couch. Zeus checks all the boxes. Friendly with people, other dogs, cats, kids. He is good on a leash, good in the car, and behaves in the house. He enjoys outside time and going for walks. He'd keep you company in the kitchen if you want and will listen when directed out. He'd love a canine playmate or a friendly cat, yet he'd be fine as the only pet. (He'd be happiest with another furry friend.) He isn't afraid of thunderstorms or the vacuum cleaner. He will bark at a door knock/doorbell. I can't find the words to emphasize what a great dog he is. At least once a day we remark on him being 'such a good boy' and we mean it. We love this guy and would love to find a family who will appreciate him for all his wonderful qualities. Because he's camera shy, our pics don't do him justice. He has beautiful brown eyes that show immense gratitude and contentment when you pet him. His coat is turning soft and even shimmering a little. He has so many cute faces and gives one of the best tilted head looks ever seen on a dog! PLEASE READ: Adopters will not be considered without completing an application. Please visit www.AmericanBulldogRescue.org to apply! Remember – Adoption is always the best option! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
