Maybe because at one point I had pups of my own, or maybe because I'm like a mom to my smaller foster brother. Either way I like to be called both. When I first arrived I was pretty shy and scared of all the new things. I quickly learned that my home was safe, and I started to feel more and more comfortable as the days moved on. I have learned that human males are just as nice as female humans. And that loud noises doesn't always mean something bad is about to happen. I am completely house trained :) If they forget to let me out I will sometimes sit by the back door, or nod my head when they look at me. I LOVE so many things, my kennel, the couch, going for walks, and my foster brother. I gladly go to my kennel for bedtime, and I sure sleep peacefully. I also don't mind hanging out in the kennel while my owners are away at work. Lately I have been able to stay out once in a while when they are at work. My foster mom tells me I do such a good job during this time. When my family is home I will usually hang out on the couch. I am only allowed on one part of the couch, I learned this very early on, but I love my spot! I love it even more when my foster family snuggles with me on the couch. If I'm not laying around on the couch I am playing with my foster brother. He is super small so I have to be very careful not to hurt him. We love to play around and chase one another. He is older than me, so he usually gets tired before I do. I understand this, and will leave him be when it is time to rest. I also LOVE to go on walks! I am not in super shape, so short walks satisfy me. Other things I hear from my foster family is that I am super nice when I take a treat from their hands. I do my best to not even touch them when I grabbed it. I am also very patient with my food. I Love to eat, but I will sit and wait until I get the okay. Sometimes my foster brother sniffs out my food before I get to it, he might even take a few bites. That's okay with me though, he's my favorite. I have learned that the upstairs is not my area, and I stick to staying downstairs. Even if my whole family is up there and I feel lonely. I recently learned how to shake. My foster mom thinks I'm a pretty smart dog because I learn quickly. I am also good around kids. I don't live with any, but we get some that will visit. If they are nice and pet me I will hang around for more. If they don't I will usually do my own thing. I am working on not jumping up on people when I am so excited to see them. I have learned that I get more pets and scratches when I sit, but sometimes it is too hard! I have not jumped up on a kid, I think they are too small and I would probably knock them over. I also like to smile when I first see my family. I get so excited I can't help but flash my pearly whites :) Dogs and I can be friends, but I do need a little time to get used to them. Some dogs I'm pretty much friends with right away, some take me a little longer. I promise I will be friends with everyone eventually, and if you have another dog Id still love to live with you, but you might need to take a few days for me to be really comfortable with them. Hopefully this is ok! Thank you for taking the time to read about me. I would love for more visits from humans, and I hope to find my forever home soon! All dogs are in individual foster homes throughout the Twin Cities. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION TODAY! Keep in mind that there may be multiple applicants applying for the same animal(s). You only need to complete 1 application for multiple animals that you're interested in. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
