it shell-shocked that he lost his wonderful home where he was definitely the king and protector of his castle. He did not react well to the arrival of a new baby to the home, and for the safety of all, his owners felt it best he be moved to another forever home where he could once again be the main focus of his owner's love, attention and affection. Tebow is used to being just a little bit spoiled and doted upon. In his foster home, Tebow does not appear to like cats at all. He needs a forever home without any kids. He has lived with dogs previously with no issues, but so far in his foster home he has not liked other dogs at all. He isn't interested in being a playmate for another dog, and would prefer being an only dog. We recommend a home with no other dogs for him. Tebow is a little timid and craves affection and attention. He hasn't been well socialized and he is very protective of his owners - these behavior issues would likely need some training (either with a trainer or an experienced Eskie owner) to work on these. However, his previous owners said that he was always friendly if a neighbor stopped over to care for him in their absence. He enjoys going on walks and is pretty good on a leash, though he does pull and needs some practice and direction. He's not a huge fan of car rides and hates going to the vet......let's face it, this boy is a home-body! He loves people and he's looking for someone who will be home much of the time and from whom he can con unlimited cuddles and petting. If you think you can provide Tebow's perfect forever home, please email dyan@eskierescuers.org for any questions, or otherwise, complete our online adoption application at www.eskierescuers.org. Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers. There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
