o Happy Tails after I had been quilled in the face by a porcupine. That is the third time that has happened to me (I just like playing with everything and everyone!) Foster Pupdate: This happy-go-lucky man is still searching for his forever family! He would do best with an active family, or with a dog brother/sister to get his energy out with. He also loves cuddling on the couch catching some z’s with his foster mom. Peter had a run in with a porcupine and is on the mend but doing great! He is neutered, fully vetted and ready to go to his permanent home! Peter lives with two horses, two dogs, three cats, a two year old human, and a 4month old human. Peter reeeally wants to play with the cats but they aren’t too fond of him. He loves when you pet him and snuggle on the couch, he just lights up when you grab his leash to go on a walk or in the car. Peter has it all except a furever home Peter just loves to love and is so happy to meet you! He is working on settling and being a calmer pup, and he is doing so well!! Once inside the house he would love nothing more than one two or five chew toys stuffed into his mouth and hop up to cuddle you. (I haven’t broken it to him that his 70lbs isn’t normally considered a ‘lap dog’) ***Most of our pups can be enrolled in training anywhere, but there are a few that we require to attend our training. This is one of them. They have something special about them and we want to make sure they get the extra support they need. Most of them have already started our training program. Peter Baron has some trouble settling. If there is such a thing as being too happy, that's Peter! He's an awesome guy who has REALLY benefitted from the classes he's gone to with his foster. Continuing there will be great for him! He hopes to meet you soon! Prior to adoption, I will be altered, vaccinated, health checked and microchipped. Adoption Fee $350.00 If you would like to meet me please fill out a pre-adoption application at www.tailsrescue.org Happy Tails Adoption Center is open on Sundays from 12-5 and Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
