you can foster this girl after reading about her, please submit our foster application asap. Her foster Mom is moving out of state and we still haven't found a new foster home for her. I'm Esme, or you can call me Ezzie, and I'm not sure why I'm still waiting for a home. I have so much love to give and the dogs around me get adopted and everyone loves on them, but I'm still here after over TWO YEARS. My foster family is great and all, but I'm still waiting for that family to say "Esme! Come be ours!" I'm an easy-going lady. I love to cuddle, go for car rides, long walks with you, or play fetch in my very own yard! I don't even care if you have to work all day because I'm good until you get come back to me and play and hug me! I know you have a life too, I just want to be part of it when you're back. It can't be that I'm not pretty enough. I'm a beauty! Did you get a good look at my picture? I have a unique coloring with a mix of fawn merle and brindle, and a really cool blue patch in one of my eyes! I think I'm rather stunning! I'm an energetic 42-pounds of darling and love everyone I meet. Did I mention I'm smart too? Good on a leash, good in a create, happy in the car. I mean, come on! The only reason I feel like people don't want me is because I don't really like other dogs or 4-legged animals. My foster says I have to be an "only dog." I don't know why I'm like that, I just am. And it breaks my heart that it might be keeping me from finding a family of my very own because I'm such an amazing dog otherwise! I just want to be your everything. Her new family must be homeowners with a securely fenced yard. Breed knowledge and experience is required in her potential applicants. Our website has information about our rescue, adoption process and link to our adoption application www.collarofhope.org We are a foster home based rescue and have no facility to visit. Prior to adoption, our dogs are spay/neutered, vaccinated including rabies/age appropriate, and parasite treated/prevented as a minimum. Click on bone to complete an application.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
