can Pit Bull Terrier who's a HAPPY girl that's never met a stranger on two OR four legs ~ BRIGHT and CHEERFUL is what I'm all about! Some people might consider me just a “plain Jane” little black dog but my rescue friends assure me that MY personality truly SHINES ! Hey folks, life is GOOD these days and that's something I truly appreciate! Everyone seems to be impressed with my manners AND gentle demeanor, but I find it EASY to behave since I thrive on the pawsitive praise one receives for doing so! I enjoy ALL my friends at our multi dog indoor foster home and am SUPER NICE to everyone I meet, exhibiting some of the BEST canine socialization skills my rescue friends have ever seen ~ I know how to “work it” ! I absolutely ADORE children, get along GREAT with other dogs and I loooooove to please my people. My foster Mom treats me real special, saying I’m so SMART, such a GOOD girl and one of the best snooglers she’s ever seen. I’d do anything she asks for all those extra hugs and kisses ~ I just looooooove to cuddle!!! I’ve heard that laps are for sissies though so I’ll put my head on your leg or lean into your arms for a big hug, and it’s really cool to just lay at your feet and entertain myself with one of my favorite bones. I do make sure to announce the arrival of any strangers but I’m especially good with people ~ even the UPS man! I'm completely house, crate, car and even leash trained ~ putting my head through the loop and walking NICELY on lead to go out for another adventure! I'm allowed to sleep in a nice bed without a crate ‘cause I’ve never had an accident. She calls me her SPECIAL little “ambassador,” guess that means I’m good kid! I’d really like to live the family lifestyle with a special person(s) of my very own, human(s) who’ll love me, teach me new things and maybe even take me to classes where I can show off my talents ~ I promise to shower YOU with love and a life time of devotion in return! Why wait??? Contact us via our petabulls.com website or simply call Mare at (505)316-2089 for a private "By Appointment Only" showing at our weekly "Adoptions in the Park" !!! PLEASE include YOUR phone number on all inquiries as we are rarely around the computer these days :) OR come meet the PACK at our Petland Albuquerque adoption event on Saturday, April 22nd, from 11am to 2pm at the locally owned and operated PETLAND - located on the NW corner of Paseo and Louisiana (6600 Holly Ave NW Albuquerque, NM 87113). We hope to see YOU there !!!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
