ur little girl had a "mommy makeover" and is now THRIVING in foster care At 41lbs she's slowly putting on much needed weight, luckily Ms. Neptune is incredibly food motivated and never turns down a snack! She's walking well on a leash, taking her time to smell new areas. We're still a little shy about crossing paths with other dogs. We want to make new puppy friends but are still working on confidence through proper introductions. Neptune is very petitie, like your typical blue staffy. 41 lbs is mostly muscle and milk! (Haha) As with most blue staffies, Neptune is a great size for those that love the pitty love, but need a smaller sized companion. She is an adult so she is not expected to get taller. Her weight might fluctuate as she loses her mommy-ness and starts to look like a normal pup. We expect her to stay at 40lbs, give or take a few lbs. During the day Neptune can be found napping on the bed, in the sun, or in her "little house" (kennel) where she prefers to be when left home alone. Neptune also loves stuffed toys... specifically the squeaky ones, MORE snacks, enrichment puzzles, walks around town, and cuddles with her people. Dogs: Mama Neptune tested well with other dogs before coming into our rescue. Although while at the shelter and around her puppies, she was defensive towards other dogs that walked by (but that is to be expected!) She was taken away from her 6 week old babies and tested with a smaller breed male dog and a female dog her size and a large male dog. She did well during the test, although she did try to police some of the growly/weird play that two of the dogs started to do during her short time with the other pups. She wasn’t spayed yet and was in mommy mode! She is currently being fostered without other pets, so we will learn more about her dog to dog as time goes on. During her initial dog test, she was mostly just interested in getting attention (well… actually FOOD) from the humans! As with all of our adoptions (puppy adult, etc), meet and greets are required! Neptune would love to meet your furry companions to see if they are a match Cats: Mama Neptune did well in her initial cat test. Again, she wasn’t spayed at this time and had just been taken from the shelter and away from her babies. We will cat test her again now that she has been spayed and has had time to decompress! We would love for her to meet any feline friends if needed Kids: mama Neptune is friendly and has shown us that she is mostly a calm soul. She has done well with the kiddos she has met so far and even rode with a 6 year old on her freedom ride out of the shelter. She actually insisted on going to the back seat to sit with him! If you're looking for the sweetest, cutest, pittie companion, look no further!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
