Tricks/Commands: Come, Sit, Down, Crate, High Five,
Crate Trained: Yes
Potty Trained: Yes
Activity Level: Low
Fun things I do: I love people. I love all people, especially the ones that give me toys and treats. I am a huge fan of getting all of my toys out and putting them all on my bed so I can lay with them. I do enjoy getting out and about to go for a quick walk, or swing through the drive through and go for car rides.
What am I looking for: I am looking for that special family that wants to make this last bit of my life fantastic. I have been diagnosed with Allerbic/eosinophilic bronchitis with secondary collapsing airway disease and bronchiectasis. My mom said that’s basically like COPD for dogs. I’m on some steroids now, and have an inhaler, and if you didn’t know I was sick, you wouldn’t know. I really just love people. When someone comes to pet me, I’ll wiggle wiggle wiggle, and they always say “Oh My Gosh! Look at her, she’s the cutest Itty Bitty Pitty I’ve ever seen!”
Notes from my foster Mom: Pita is a fantastic house guest. She really is such a loving, caring, cuddle bug of a dog. I really want to get her a home that will just show her love. Based on her diagnosis, she came from some place that wasn’t great, which is shy she is sick. It breaks my heart. A Rotta Love has done a fantastic job of getting her into the U to get properly diagnosed. Without this diagnosis and treatment, she would cough so much that you felt like she was never going to stop. Now she barley coughs at all, sometimes at night, but nothing crazy. All of the doctors at the U fell in love with her.
Notes from the Doc: “Pita’s prognosis overall is guarded. I do believe that she could be made comfortable for a period of time, but she will not have a normal lifespan. Her disease is quite advanced with the airway collapse we are seeing. I am encouraged that with the treatment plan she is improving, but I expect that we will continue to see some coughing and eventually she will have progression of her disease. I have seen this disease only in dogs from extremely poor living conditions (i.e. puppy mills) wherein the air quality was so poor they presented in heart failure from their airway disease. In those cases, their airway disease progressed within a year. I absolutely hate to sentence her to this sort of prognosis, but I am afraid that her disease is truly quite progressed and I suspect that she would maybe have quality time for 1, maybe 2 years at best. This is one of the most loving, deserving of dogs and I want to offer you more therapeutic options and a better prognosis, but I am at a loss at this time.
Thank you for bringing Pita into the UMN and trusting us with her care. She is truly a wonderful girl and we wish her the best of luck in finding her forever family.”
