FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Talulah, called Lulu by her foster family, is a very sweet girl who loves everyone and meets everyone with a smile and a wagging tail. Lulu came to our rescue less than 24 hours before she was slated to be put to sleep, her only crime being that she is a Pit Bull mix. She is a great size, much smaller than most Pits, and is great with the kids and dogs in her foster home, but can be dog selective. We do not know how she would react to cats at this time. She is a low key dog, preferring to sleep in and lounge on the couch but also enjoys going for long walks, running, and playing with her people and other dogs. Her favorite game is tug and she loves to chase a ball but hasn't quite figured out how to bring it back. She is very smart, however, and will do great in obedience training. She is crate trained, is working at walking nicely on leash, and seems to be house broken. She is currently receiving antibiotics for a secondary infection caused by allergies from the flea infestation she had prior to being rescued and can't be fixed until she completes her treatment, however we will cover the costs of her spay if you take her to one of our vets. Otherwise she will be done with all medical treatments by the first week of December. Lulu hopes you can look past the bad reputation that Pits have unfairly received and see what a loving sweet girl she is to give her a forever home. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs/cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the dog's/cat’s shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog/cat is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs and cats MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs and cats back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog or cat. The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs and cats. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes. We appreciate you stopping by.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
