al control who turned him over to the rescue. GaDaH had him neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and micro-chipped. We had him IDEXX 4DX tested for heartworm and tick disease and he tested negative for all. He was current on his rabies. Cronus has a date of birth of 10 May 2014 and weighs 48 pounds. He is an American Staffordshire Terrier / Pit Bull. CRONUS was surrendered because his family could no longer care for him. He is upset and confused, but settling in ok. He is extremely friendly and loving and everyone that has met him has instantly fallen in love of him, the staff at the vets were all wanting to take him home. He is located in the kennel building and does go outside in the run to do his business and to see what is going on outside, but when it isn't play time he settles down and relaxes enjoying chewing on his hoof. Initially he was not interested in the other dogs and wanted to be left alone, which is very understandable considering the heartache and confusion he must be feeling. Since he has become more settled he does bark at them and so I would suggest he be an only dog until he is settled in a home environment and his true personality can come out. When out having playtime Cronus is a really happy boy, he will run and play and then come back to check in before running off to explore a bit more. He is so sweet and loving, he loves to lean on you and get his head scratched or his belly rubbed. He wags his tail and goes to the gate to greet people when they go over to the kennels, he truly is just pure-sweetness. Cronus needs an active family and one that will keep his mind stimulated and challenged. Lots of hikes and adventures, training tricks, or agility, dock diving or other fun, active, stimulating activities would be perfect for this girl. He is great with humans and although I have not seen him with children, his demeanor and personality I have no doubt that he would be great with them and I am sure they could keep each other entertained for many hours. All the staff at the vets fell totally in love with him. All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
