uld love to help you rescue a perfect pet! Webster's Dictionary describes a PUPPY as 'a young domestic dog, one less than a year old.' I would describe a PUPPY as a 'young, energetic, chewing, mouthy, jumpy, all over the place, needs training, are you sure you want one in your house, loving young domestic dog with the best breath ever.' Or you could just say ZEUS. LOL! We all love Zeus regardless! He is all of these things and more! He is a puppy in all senses of a puppy. He is jumpy. He is mouthy. He is energetic. He chews on things. He is all over the place. He needs training. He is a young domestic dog less than a year old, prob right at a year old now. He is loving and he has the best breath ever. He is also looking for a home. His ideal home will be willing and able to give him daily exercise, training, and playtime. He needs time to expend all that puppy energy so he can then be settled enough to go through some obedience training. He needs daily exercise to use that puppy energy and work his muscles and tire him out physically so he can then use his mind to learn obedience. He needs a new owner, experienced preferred, who will also offer him the patience necessary when it comes to training puppies. Zeus has the ability. He is already house trained and crate trained! He just needs a partner. He has the smarts. He just needs a partner. He needs the experience. He just needs a partner. He needs daily attention and training. He just needs a partner willing to give him the time. Zeus needs to be given a chance. His previous owner says he likes children but because of his puppy behaviors, he would probably be best with older children or teenagers. His previous owner says he does not like other dogs but at the shelter he seems interested in other dogs. Bring yours in for a meet and greet and let's see if they can get along! An older more experienced and tolerant dog who could teach Zeus in doggie language might be good for Zeus. He may just have never had to socialization necessary as of yet. We do not know how he feels about cats but considering Zeus' energy, he might be a bit too much for a cat. His previous owner also stated he was Diamond Naturals soft or hard food (chicken and rice formula) and loves hot dogs for treats. Seems like he was loved. He just needs a new home to rest his little head. Come on out to the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center and ask to meet Zeus. Right now he's waiting in back for a spot in adoption. His id number is 1610-0753. Thank you for considering adopting! Virginia Beach Animal Care & Adoption Center has wonderful pets available for adoption. As of December 6, all animals are now at the new shelter at 341 Birdneck Road. The former shelter on Leroy Drive is now closed. If you have lost a pet, please visit the shelter in person and often as lost animals arrive everyday. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
