vate meeting. If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <underdogrescuepetml> ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending! DOB: Approximately born early March 2016 Requires another dog in home: No Okay with dogs of all sizes: See bio Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: Unknown Requires a fenced yard: No Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area Meet Shiner. She is 3 years old and 30lbs of pure cuddles. She was recently rescued from a shelter down in Texas and is getting used to this Minnesota weather! Shiner absolutely adores attention and loves getting pets. She is a cuddle bug and loves to sit on the couch and be petted! She enjoys belly rubs and will for sure be your buddy for Netflix marathons! She is very friendly with new people and asks for pets from them as well. Shiner is crate, potty, and kennel trained - what more could you ask for?! She also loves going on walks and is a good leash walker. She’s also learning some commands: ‘sit’, ‘kennel’, and ‘go potty’. She would love to go to a basic obedience class with you and continue learning dog manners. We are not sure Shiner's full history, but socialization and obedience would certainly benefit her. She seems to like people all to herself, so an only dog home would be just fine for this little Miss or a family who can continue socializing her around other dogs as she has shown a little bit of resource guarding behaviors that have been easily managed with correction. We think that she’ll be fine with other dogs once she gets used to them as she is doing very well with the dogs in her foster home (Border Collie and Puggle). She’s as quiet as can be too; she never barks. Shiner is such a sweet dog and would make an awesome cuddly buddy for someone. When anyone comes in the door, she runs and wiggles her butt and wants to be petted. Shiner is excited to find her forever, so fill out an application today! ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: .underdogrescuemn/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at .underdogrescuemn/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website .underdogrescuemn/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
