cks (not your ordinary tricks!) Do you need something to rub off a little "Happy" onto you? MITCH is your guy! I have NEVER seen a dog make such a fool of himself, have no shame, love every other dog and person, and just love life SO much.....and also be homeless. Mitch has been homeless for 9 months now. Mitch was surrendered to the shelter in July 2016 at 5 mo old. With hours left before euthanasia, the litter was rescued. His other 3 siblings got adopted right away, and he was left behind. ] He's looking for a family who would enjoy an outside, sometimes inside pet...have children who love to play fetch..and have no kitties! He can be an inside dog because he loves to snuggle and watch tv or sleep in the bed, but he is an outdoor dog at heart. This boy runs and runs and runs circles around the yard with his rope, ball, bone, stick, anything he can find in his mouth! He’s a ham!! He responds very well to commands such as sit, down, wait, and ok. He loves to go on car rides and outings! He’s wonderful on the leash and welcomes strangers with a wag! His favorite place in the world is the dog park! He’s super trainable and hasn’t attended formal classes, but training classes will are included in his adoption! He’s fairly small, around 35lb, and won’t get any bigger. He is up to date on shots, neutered, and microchipped. If your family is looking for an addition or you’re looking to be loved unconditionally, amused daily, and willing to give a baby a second chance at a good start in life, Mitch is who you are looking for!!! Mitch is looking for an adopter OR FOSTER!! His current foster can no longer keep him, as she has too many pets to give him the attention he deserves. He is kenneled too much and needs OUT!! To adopt Mitch, fill out our application here! https://form.jotform.com/42655372023147 To foster Mitch, fill out our application here! https://form.jotform.com/42655245603150 We require that ALL current household pets be spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations and up to date on heartworm prevention. We will require confirmation from your veterinarian. If renting, we must have landlord approval. A fence is not a requirement for ALL of our dogs. Fences are a case-by-case determination.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
