ithout a mean bone in my body. I LOVE food, my favorite time of day is food time! It is my biggest motivator. I eat way too fast and barely breathe while inhaling every last morsel, but it is just soooooo good!!! My foster mom and dad have taken my food bowls and bones away and I haven't growled at them, I just look at them confused. I'm not much of a barker, but when you put me in a kennel, I will whine and bark just for a couple minutes to let you know I'd much rather be with you instead. I'm very calm unless I'm playing with my new dog friend, we can be rambunctious, but hey, we have fun! My foster family loves watching us chase each other and wrestle. I don't climb on furniture because that's what I've been taught. I do great in cars! I pretty much just lay down and relax until we get to where we're going. I'm a little unsure of my jumping abilities, so my foster mom has to help me into her SUV sometimes. I do really well on a leash and I love going for walks. Not to brag, but I can really teach my foster sister a thing or two about how to behave on a leash! The home I'm staying at right now has 2 kids ages 10 and 14. I love then so much and enjoy snuggling up with them any chance I get. Veto has been around cats and he corners them just barks. Not sure he understands what they are and he always wants to play. I would suggest a home without such little children though, he is a BIG baby and doesn't really know just how big he is. We are really working on getting him to stop jumping on people. He gets so excited and knocks people over. He is a lover though, not a mean bone in him. My foster mom and dad say that I'm the sweetest boy they've ever known and you would never know what a rough start to life I've had. You can see just a little of my former bad times in my fur --- it fell out (really) due to stress and bad food BUT I am getting lots of love and good food and no more stress so my fur will grown back in and I will be handsome very soon! They hope my forever home comes along soon so I can finally have some stability. Put in an application today at .eapl

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
