ill be kept on file for future adoption consideration. * Female Pit Bull Terrier mix * Approximately 4 months old * Approximately 24 pounds * Working on house training * Crate trained * Okay with other dogs * Okay with cats * Dog respectful children 8 and older * Adoption fee: $500 All dogs with PUP are in private foster homes so we can provide our potential adopters the most current information available. Raising a puppy requires a lot of work and is a commitment! Swirl will be an awesome addition to a family that can give her the attention, exercise, training and affection she deserves. Due to the fact that this is a mixed breed puppy, we, nor our vets, cannot guarantee the size that your dog will be. Health: Swirl has been spayed and microchipped. She is current on her DHPP, Bordetella, and will need her Rabies at 4 months. She has been wormed and flea treated. History: Swirl comes from a rescue in Houston. PUP was asked to help and we are so glad we did. All dogs PUP pulls from Houston come with health certificates, as required by Washington state. Notes from Swirl's Foster Home: Swirl is an adorable puppy with lots of energy. She loves to run in our yard with the other dogs. She loves her chew toys, so if there is something on the floor it becomes her chew toy. She is losing her baby teeth so she likes rubber chew toys. We are working on her being “mouthy” with people. In her short time with us she has learned to “sit” for treats. She sleeps and eats in her kennel quietly. She will alert bark if someone comes to the door and will whine when she needs to go potty. She is working on potty training and is starting to go to the door when she wants out. If she is out of her crate she needs to go out every 30-40 minutes. She is still a puppy and can be “mouthy” at times. She has lots of toys to chew on to help with teething. She is a high energy dog and loves to run and play outside. When she is done playing outside she is quick to jump up and sit next to you or on your lap. She is a very sweet, feisty, funny pup. Note: The above description reflects the behavior we have observed in the dog's foster home. Although PUP provides adopters up to the minute information on our dogs, we cannot guarantee they will behave in the same manner in a different environment with new owners. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
