ur years. I like the staff but I would love to have my own family. I am hesitant with new people, so I don’t show my personality very well upon first meeting. I usually warm up faster with women; it takes a little longer with men. Children are not recommended. I really need a quiet home to feel safe. Once I get to know someone I am very affectionate, especially if someone will give me a belly rub. I am selective about which male dogs I will accept, and don’t really get along with female dogs. I love to take long walks. Since I can sometimes be nervous about strangers out in public, my person must take care to avoid strangers coming up to me and trying to give me unsolicited attention. My adoption fee is $145. Would you like to meet me and see how I would fit into your family? Hi I'm Miley. I do not have a tragic tale of unfortunate beginnings like some of my kennel mates do. I was just stray. Well not just a stray, I was a mom dog with my three precious babies, sitting in the pound. A lady from Partners came and saved my babies and took me too. Oh how grateful I was that my babies were going to live. I was even more grateful to hear that all three were adopted into loving homes. I was so hopefully that soon it would be my turn to find a forever home where I be loved and cherished too....but here I sit. You see, I have what you'd call "stranger danger" issues. New people can be kind of scary for me. I do much better with women and warm up faster to them, but men take me a little longer. I have gotten much better over the years, but the issue is sometimes still there. I do just great with the male care givers at the shelter that I've grown to love and trust. I love to roll over for tummy rubs and play with other male dogs. There is a volunteer that comes a few times a week to walk me and it took me 5 minutes to fall in love with her. I wish there was someone out there who would take a chance on me and be willing to help me work through my fear. I'm really a fun loving girl who loves play, snuggle and give lots of kisses. I am spayed, current on vaccinations, has her annual rabies vaccination, dewormed and micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $145.00 IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING, GO TO OUR HOME PAGE AT www.partnersforpetsil.org and fill out an application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
