Bruno is an affectionate, good natured, happy ball of energy who is sure to keep you entertained and busy! Bruno’s current family is taking advantage of APBA’s rehoming assistance program. They love him very much, but recognize that their home is not a good match for his needs, so they have asked for our help in finding him a new family who will love him as much as they do. The issue they are having is that Bruno is a high energy dog who needs someone who has the time to devote to wearing him out; his current family simply can’t give him that. Because of his energy level and wander lust, Bruno does need a home with a fenced yard. Bruno’s family got him from a breeder when he was a puppy and have kept him up to date with his vetting/shots. He will be neutered in the near future/before he is rehomed through APBA. He is said to be great with children and is playful with another dog (dominant female) in the home. When we met Bruno, we found him to be extremely friendly with new people and he rarely stopped moving! Bruno is highly treat motivated and knows some commands (sit, lay down, etc.)—but due to his busy nature, he may not always demonstrate skills without the lure of a cookie. He is house trained and loves to go out and about on walks. Bruno is said to pull a bit when on the leash and will sometimes get excited if he sees other dogs (he may bark and/or try to get into their personal space). Although his family says his intentions are always friendly, his exuberance sometimes annoys other dogs. Bruno’s new family should plan to work with him on leash walking, basic training and doggy social skills (note: neutering may help reduce some of this behavior). Given adequate exercise and additional training, Bruno is sure to be an outstanding breed ambassador that turns heads with his good looks and charm. Get your applications in quickly, we do not expect him to be with us long! If you think you might be interested in adopting Bruno, please fill out our on-line application! .ambassadorpitbulls/adoption-application.html Completing our application doesn't obligate you to anything but it is a starting point for discussion regarding the possibility of adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
