nsport to most states, through partner networks. Virtual meet n greets can be arranged for all non-local adopters. Lee is a loving and lovable 7 y/o boy whose world was turned upside down when he and his housemate found themselves in the city shelter and at risk of euthanasia due to overcrowding. Sadly, in order to save them, he and his housemate had to be separated (and she has since been adopted while poor Lee sits behind sad and depressed in boarding…) We know boarding is not the same as a shelter, but to the dogs, they don’t know the difference as they find themselves once again behind fenced walls. According to the folks who are caring for him, “He just wants to put his paws in your lap and stare into your eyes. His coat is a beautiful red color. He has a nice healthy energy level, but also likes to relax. He’s crate trained, not a big barker, and does ok on leash. He’s fine with cats, too! This sweet boy is just patiently waiting to start his new life!” —————————— Here are some additional facts about Lee: Weight: 67 pounds Age/DOB: 7 years old Gender: Male Breed: Lab mix Color: Red Good with adults: yes Good with kids: older ones Good with other dogs: yes Good with cats: yes House-trained: Unknown Crate trained: rides quietly in crate in car Energy level: medium Can be handled/touched: Yes Barker: rarely Flight risk: no Food aggressive: no Barrier aggression: no Walks on leash: Yes Rides well in car: Yes Destructive: no Needs a home with a yard: no Needs a home with another dog: No Can live in an apartment: yes ———————————— If you are able to either foster or adopt this sweet guy so he can get out of boarding (where he’s now been for quite a few months), please contact us ASAP. {NOTE: Lee is currently in boarding in SC where he was saved. Ground transport to the northeast will be arranged for a committed foster or adopter!} To apply to adopt, click on .arcadiarescue/application. If the pet you applied for is no longer available, .arcadiarescue/adopt to see all of our available pets. Note: Some pups are in boarding facilities in order to save their lives. This is far from ideal, they really need to be in loving homes. Due to record number owner surrenders this year, we have zero foster homes available. Fostering helps save another pup from euthanasia in an overcrowded kill shelter needing to free up a kennel. If you can foster, go to .arcadiarescue/foster and fill out a foster application. Thank you!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
