male American Staffordshire Terrier / Lab blend who's known to be a true SWEETHEART ! I had run out of time at a local kill shelter, looking so sick and emaciated that people just passed me by... But my CALM energy, GENTLE nature and LOVING demeanor immediately convinced a kind lady there to ask my rescue friends for help so “Lady Luck” was with ME that day ! With just a little TLC (ie, good food) from my foster Mom, I’ve blossomed into the darling little clown she knew was lurking inside. Just look at me now ~ I’m happy, healthy, hysterically funny, outgoing, super smart, well mannered, confident and sport a GORGEOUS thick coat of soft fur that makes me TOTALLY ready to find my forever home! It's such a shame that some people can't “see” a black dog – known as BDS or “black dog syndrome,” many humans simply walk right past us, do not see “us” and never even know we're there because they think we look scary or mean just because of our dark color ~ it sure wasn't MY choice, I assure you. But NO hard feelings ~ I’m a VERY FRIENDLY guy who loooooves to run and play outside, GREAT with other dogs and I'm impeccably well behaved indoors, settling in nicely at your feet so we can read, nap or couch surf and watch movies. My STUNNING (or so I'm frequently told) velvet soft fur is so pleasant to pet and my goofy facial expressions keep everyone rolling in laughter, and I do looooove to entertain! I also love long walks, hikes, running with my favorite human, or just about anything you care to do that lets us spend time together. I also enjoy our many touring adventures, loading up instantly in even the largest model SUV's where I settle in comfortably by a window to take in the scenery ~ they don't have to ask me twice 'cause I'm ALWAYS up for another new adventure ~ hey, life is GOOD folks so it's best to enjoy it while we can, right ?!? I’d make a WONDERFUL addition to any family looking to add a silly four legged member to their human pack. I’m a FUNNY guy who loves to please his people and is eager to learn new things… I’d really like to have a special person(s) of my very own, one who’ll teach me new things and maybe even take me to classes where I can show off my talents ~ I promise to shower YOU with love and a life time of devotion in return! Why wait??? Contact us via our petabulls.com website or simply call Mare at (505)316-2089 for a private 'By Appointment Only' showing at our weekly 'Adoptions in the Park' !!! PLEASE include YOUR phone number on all inquiries as we are rarely around the computer these days :)

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
