For more photos please visit our Facebook page. .facebook/pages/Almost-Home-New-Mexico/203840136304815 Approximate DOB 03/13/2009 Size About 50 lbs History- Tinkerbell came into rescue after she started getting a little too wild at the shelter she was at. She had been in custody for about 6 months and was just too excited for people to handle when they would take her out of her kennel.. One of the supervisors asked us to take her so she could run as she just needed to stretch out and play.. Sure enough we brought her into our program and she probably ran for about an hour just all over the property-- she was so excited to be out. Fast forward- she got adopted and started jumping the woman's fence- she was bored and the lady decided she was no longer going after her and instead got another dog. So now she is back with us and doing great just needs her forever home.. Temperament- Very sweet with everyone. She loves new people and new dogs -- she would make an amazing greeter for any public place.. She is happiest when she can see as many people as possible to keep her mind active.. Energy Level- Mid level energy. Dogs/Cats- She loves to play with the other dogs.. They can run and wrestle non-stop.. She gets along with the cats and kittens very well with no issues at all.. She just loves everyone and everything... Housetrained- She is great in the house.. House and crate trained perfectly.. No accidents ever.. Tinkerbell would make a wonderful apartment dog for someone who is active- someone who jogs or goes hiking or likes to spend time downtown in public hanging out.. She absolutely loves people and so visiting lots of people in the evening and sleeping in an apartment all day would be right up her alley!!! She is the perfect combination of social butterfly and laid back couch potato.. She is a perfect girl as far as socialization and being a perfect companion however she does have a few faults.. She is terrified of fireworks/gunshots and thunder and she can jump my 6' wood privacy fence with no problem.. However when she does jump I can meet her at the end of the ditch bank and open my car door and she will hop right in or she will go visit a neighbor who might be home.. She loves car rides!!! This dog would be a perfect traveling companion-- maybe for someone who lives in an RV or a truck driver who needs a companion.. This would be right up her alley-- nothing better for her than being out and about. Update 10/11/2020- We believe she is hard of hearing at this point so the fireworks and storms don't bother her like they used to. It is still highly recommended she has a crate just in case. She can no longer jump fences either so that is no longer an issue. She gets along with all the other dogs, has some basic obedience training and is just an all around easy girl who would love her own person to love. She is a senior so we would love to see her get some spoiling of her own in her senior years. Adoption fee a small donation in any amount to the rescue. She is spayed, rabies vaccinated, has age appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped and will have a collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
