lling all of those beach babes who live by the motto, "Good vibes and tan lines." With summer finally here, it's my time to shine because I am indeed the color of sand. When you plan on seas-ing the day consider adopting me, 2.5 year old bully mix that goes by the name of Xena the Warrior Princess! EmFURsis on the princess. I’d be a perfect setup for your sunglasses selfies, jumping pics as your BFF, and squad goal photos of us laying out on the towels. I’d love to spend every day by the shore, getting some much-needed vitamin sea. The tans will fade, but the memories last forever. I remember when I was ditched at a dog park at 3 mos old with my fur sister. I was adopted out but returned and in need of medical attention and God’s Dogs Rescue got me fixed up. Fixed up my leg and my confidance, you can’t dance with a hurt leg. My current Foster Mom can tell you that it takes me a minute to warm up to you. But if you can be patient with me, once you’re my human, you’re MY human. Me and my Foster Mom likes to Tropic like it's hot and dance in the living room. I like to sit on the couch and watch GoT with her. I won’t pee on your beach towel cause I am potty trained. I learned how to use the doggy door in one day. One day. I know SIT. Foster Mom is working on other cool tricks I can impress your friends with at your next bonfire. I take baths well! Nothing soothes the soul like a walk on the beach... or the park... I can use some fine tuning on my leash skills. But I’m a great car riding companion and housemate... just make sure you put the toilet seat down. Girls just wanna have sun, good times and tan lines. Happiness comes in waves. That must mean furry doggie friends come in waves cause I love doggie friends. No cats though. They look ridiculous in water! Ever seen a wet cat? Not a good look. Don’t be shellfish. I’m 55lbs of cannonball fun. And to end with a remixed quote "One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach." — Anne Spencer “but you can adopt a beautiful bombshell of a pup by adopting me!” — Xena. If you have a place waiting for ME, I'm reddy. Just email AdoptionsGodsdogsrescue and tell them you want ME! GOD'S DOGS Rescue, in San Antonio TX, does not have a shelter - ALL of our dogs are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
