For more photos please visit our Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Almost-Home-New-Mexico/203840136304815 Approximate DOB 11/03/2015 Size - About 60 lbs History- Piquin and Czr were scheduled to go to a rescue out of state however when the rescue backed out the pups were left with the transporters in Albuquerque and no place to go. A plea went out for rescue and a rescue said yes they would take them but then they turned around and told the foster to take them to a Humane Society where they would possibly be euthanized. So the foster started contacting the rescues she knew and we said ok. They came here and we realized they were not socialized as much as we had hoped, however once they bond with someone they are amazing dogs. Czr loves attention and being held - he is a big baby who loves being babied. Temperament- Initially- Very standoffish, shy, and weary. Czr would not do good in a busy home with a lot of visitors. He is very serious and calm. However, once he bonds he is a big ol' lap dog-- he loves laps, cuddling on the couch, and hugs. Once he has bonded he is very sweet, playful, and happy who loves his toys. He does look intimidating because he is so serious but he is a shy guy who just wants love.. Energy Level- Mid to lower level energy- loves to play chase and wrestle with the other dogs (he is with Jacques, Taffy, and Piquin). They wrestle, play tug, play chase, and just have fun but he would really love to have his own person to love and cuddle with on the couch. Dogs/Cats- Good with the other dogs and cats Housetrained- House trained perfectly using a dog door. There have been no mistakes at all. This guy is so handsome, loving, and gentle with his family. However, gaining his trust will take some time and treats. He is one of those dogs that should initially be kept on leash as he bonds with his new owner. Once he bonds he is the most amazingly beautiful, happy, goofy boy ever. He is stocky but not large. He would love a family to love and call his very own who he can sprawl out on the couch with. He will make someone an amazing pet as he bonds strongly and becomes an amazing protector. We are waiving Czr's adoption fee due to his fear issues. Czr is neutered, has been given all age appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, 3 yr rabies vacc, HW tested, collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
