e) Male 100% Amstaff (according to my DNA results) 4.5-years young 51 lbs Neutered, up to date on vaccines LOVES people! Dog friendly – but prefers to be your one & only Enjoys an active lifestyle; equally enjoys snuggle time Smart, knows basic commands; crate trained; needs someone to continue with his training Quick Introduction to Rollie Hey good lookin’, whatcha got cookin’? I’m Rollie, and although that’s my name, the first thing I wanna tell you is, I’m no rollie-pollie. I’m a hunk-of-a-guy with a big smile, cool markings and great physique! And I’m no couch potato… I love having an active lifestyle with my peeps. Don’t sweat it, we don’t have to go on intense excursions like hiking mountains if that’s not up your alley, but I’d totally enjoy being your sidekick on car rides, taking walks, trips to the park, and playtime. I’m kinda like a puppy in a big-boy body -- I like to burn off energy before I’m ready to chill. And although I’m not one to veg-out on the couch all day, when we’re done with our adventures, I’d like nothing more than to feel completely at peace, snuggling together as we watch TV and savor some quiet time. To learn more about me, please read on. Rollie’s Background I thought I had a forever family. I lived with my family from when I was just a puppy at eight weeks young until just recently at four-years old when they surrendered me to a shelter claiming they were moving and couldn’t take me. My big-boy heart was broken until Rescue Haven Foundation stepped in and carried me and my loving heart in their warm and competent hands to bring me to safety. Rollie’s Forever Home I’m really hoping to find my true forever family. I’d do great in a home that has an active lifestyle. I’ll need someone to help me continue my training, learning additional commands and mastering the art of walking on a leash. And as much as I’ll enjoy our activities and excursions, I’ll just as much look forward to our snuggle-times, where we can both be together in our safe and warm home in total peace. If this all sounds harmonious to you, please fill out an adoption application and ask for Rollie, your sidekick. What Rollie’s Foster Parents say about him He's a derpy 51-pound 100% American Stafford Terrier, less than a decade old, with a huge head and a lot of energy. His pleasure in discovering new games, be it tugging on rope or chasing different types of balls or hiding treats in puzzle devices, is infectious. It’s great to see him show more of his personality every day little by little. He is an inspiration to us with his joyfulness, his energy and enthusiasm. He loves a Kong filled with frozen cream cheese, giving high fives for treats, going for walks and playing ball. He knows some basic commands such as sit, wait, lay down and paw. He even knows some commands in Spanish, he is such a show off!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
