y? Meet our cavalier Aussie mix, Chevy! He's about 60 pounds and 3 years old, and looking for his perfect forever family to drive him all the way home! Chevy is a Australian Shepherd boy who just cannot get enough love and affection. He is very fond of his foster mom, and enjoys just laying and relaxing by her side. Chevy is best suited for a woman owner(s) and wants to be the only male in the home, he can be somewhat insecure around men, and feels the need to display protective tendencies. He is a super smart and intelligent dog however, but his herding breed quirks can certainly be managed. Chevy is completely house trained, and lets you know when he is ready to go outside for potty time. Chevy does great with other dogs and cats, and greatly enjoys his playtime outside with his canine foster siblings. A fenced yard where he can exercise would be preferred, somewhere where he can exude all this energies and excitements. Chevy is very loving and affectionate and even knows "sit" and "shake,"and has the potential to excel in any training program provided to him, as he is very intensely focused on his "people" at all times. Chevy simply wants a forever family who can supply him the activity and stimulation he needs to lead a calm and happy life, then drive on by and pick up Chevy today! The first step to adopting is to complete our online Adoption Application: http://aarf-tn.com/adopt/adoption-app/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide, so distance is not a problem in most areas. We have a variety of transportation options to bring your new family member to you. Typical transport cost to the northeast is $150, but may be less depending on your location (Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA residents.) How To Adopt | Adoption Application | Pet Inquiry Form | Long Distance Adoptions A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) http://aarf-tn.com/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Adoption donations vary and are subject to change without notice. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for feline leukemia and FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
