nd I just turned 2 years old (my birthday is 9/2/2016), I weight 12lbs, I have a lot of playful energy and I love everyone I meet. I'm full of spirit and independent! But I also LOVE my snuggles at night with my human after a full day of play and adventure. Especially if you let me sleep with you, ahhhh I like to sleep right next to you with your hand rubbing my belly. I also give goodnight kisses! I am a very loving girl and aim to please! My training is going great! I follow the resident dog when foster mom says "come" from outside, I know "come here" with her hand language, "stop", "sit", she is house-trained and loves learning. Ava is great in the car and loves going on adventures! Ava however, since being crate free, does not like the crate anymore. She has been doing spectacular in a gated area when foster mom is gone. She is not destructive. This adorable bundle of love was left in a basement in a crate before coming into CARS. So sadly she did not know play, loves, grass, routine etc. She has amazed us with her breathtaking sweet little soul. Ava loves dogs!!! Ava loves big dogs too! She thinks they are the greatest to wrestle with and play with. Having a confident canine brother/sister helps Ava so much! So guess what? I am deaf, I am a Double Merle. But it slows me down none. Just like me, you will soon forget I have no hearing! Ava has not been around cats, so we have no comment on how she would be with them. Ava has some requirements that must be met before we can consider you as a potential adopter: A fully fenced visible yard (no electronic fences), no children under 10 years of age please, your resident dog must be playful and non-aggressive and someone who lives within a 90 minute drive of St.Louis, Missouri . Ava is spayed, up to date on vaccinations of Rabies, Bordetella, Distemper. She has been Heart-worm tested (negative), Fecal tested (treated) and Micro-chipped. Ava also takes monthly preventatives (every month) for Heart-worm prevention (Interceptor Plus) and for Fleas/Ticks (Nexgard). Miss Ava is being fostered in St.Louis, Missouri. Every dog with Central Aussie Rescue is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and evaluated before being listed for adoption. Interested adopters must fill out an application, either online or in person, to be considered. Please visit centralaussierescue for more information about how to help Aussies in need. We are an all-foster rescue located in Missouri, Illinois, and surrounding areas.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
