y I am a super loving, happy little girl. I am a beautiful Black Tri girl! I came to Central Aussie Rescue from a puppy mill in rural Iowa with Luke (who is also posted for adoption), where I rarely left my crate and had minimal interaction with people. I didn’t know what to expect in this big world but I am really trying! I don’t have all my basic commands down yet but everyone seems so happy that I’m” just so happy”. So, things must be going right. I am fostered with a full-size Aussie, parents (mom and dad) and 2 respectful children (I love children). I do come when I’m called (mostly) and I stand on my back legs for a treat. I am learning to enjoy my walks more each day. I get a little scared when the leash is put on me and I don’t like to go out the front door on it but once we get going I have a wonderful time. I really enjoy running around in a fenced in yard and chewing on bones. I have my favorite little ball I love to play fetch with too! Rope toys are fun but I don’t care for squeaky toys (they scare me). I don’t have an aggressive little bone in my body! Hayley wants to be where you are, either snuggled up next to you or always just few footsteps behind you. She does get sad when you leave home, so Hayley would do best in a home where there is someone checking in on her throughout the day. It took my foster several weeks to hear me talk but now I love to bark at the neighbor’s dogs and other things that surprise me. I like to be encouraged and praised for eating my breakfast and dinner. I will stay at the bowl longer if you watch me. Since I never knew life outside the puppy mill sometimes I will usually come in when my humans say it’s time but occasionally, I get stuck at the door and run away if you reach for me. My fosters have found that it’s best just to leave the back-door open and go further in the house. I will eventually come in and join them and then let them go close the door. It’s important to watch the front door activity with me please. I can get confused with the comings and goings and since I am so tiny I don’t want to accidentally slip out. This little angel needs a home that is on the quieter side (loud noises scare her), a fully fenced yard (no invisible fence please) and a home with patience and lots of love to give. Little Hayley is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations ( Rabies, bordetella and distemper), fecal and heartworm tested (both negative) and takes monthly preventatives for heartworms and flea/tick. Hayley is micro-chipped. Hayley's adoption fee is $500.00 Miss Hayley is being fostered in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Every dog with Central Aussie Rescue is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and evaluated before being listed for adoption. Interested adopters must fill out an application, either online or in person, to be considered. Please visit http://centralaussierescue.org for more information about how to help Aussies in need. We are an all-foster rescue located in Missouri, Illinois, and surrounding areas.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
