g for their forever homes. Sandy is the ‘sister’ of Chloe (also listed) who came into the rescue at no fault of her own or anyone else’s. Life happens. She has always known love and her amazing personality show it! Sandy and Chloe are both purebred Australian Shepherds. Sandy was born on 10/27/07. We would be over the moon if they could be adopted together, for these two sweeties have been together their whole lives, therefore the adoption fee for both girls (total) is $300.00. Sandy is a Red Tri with copper points and currently weighs around 65lbs. She loves to be with her person, no matter the setting; car rides, being outside, anywhere with you is ideal for her. No worries about having to make space on your bed, she prefers to sleep on her doggy bed or a comfy rug. Sandy loves other dogs and meeting new people. She is currently being fostered with a toddler and co-exists nicely. She would much rather be amongst adults who will just devote their time to petting and loving on her. She walks beautifully on leash, but there’s no need for it with her. She will stay close by and loves to be off leash. She enjoys rolling around in the grass and wiggling her way into your funny bone! She was previously living with a doggy door, and currently doesn’t have one, so she’s very capable of either set up. Sandy is house trained, doesn’t need to be crated, and always greets you with a wiggle at the door when you come home. Sandy isn’t currently around cats, but given her sweet demeanor, we don't expect there to be any issue with feline friends. This cuddle bug is spayed, up-to-date on her vaccinations (Rabies, Bordetella and Distemper), heartworm tested (negative), Fecal tested (negative) and microchipped. She had some seasonal allergies but those can be maintained by an annual injection. She receives monthly preventatives of Heartgard and Revolution. These two sweeties have been together their whole lives and it would mean the world to us if they could stay together. Therefore the adoption fee for both girls (total) is $300.00. Sandy is being fostered in the Muscatine, IA area. Every dog with Central Aussie Rescue is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and evaluated before being listed for adoption. Interested adopters must fill out an application, either online or in person, to be considered. Please visit http://centralaussierescue.org for more information about how to help Aussies in need. We are an all-foster rescue located in Missouri, Illinois, and surrounding areas.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
