Look at that smile on this SUPER SENIOR! Meet Miss Snuggle Bear! Snuggle is fostered in the SF Bay Area of CA and can be adopted to anyone willing to come to us to meet her Snuggle is a 15 yr old, 22 lb Mini Aussie and Pomeranian Mix who joins us from San Jose Animal Care Center via San Jose Animal Advocates where she was treated by Tails of a Shelter Vet Snuggle has some stories to tell. While at one time she must have been a pampered pet, she had been neglected for quite some time. Her fur was in horrible condition and she required FOUR baths to get all of the muck out of her fur. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and is free of parasites. She has also had senior labwork and a dental cleaning. Snuggle has a few lumps and bumps that our vet says are fatty in nature and are better left where they are. She also has arthritis and takes a (cheap) pill twice a day to control her pain. She also has age-related changes in her labwork and should be on a senior specific food. We use FirstMate Pet Foods which is available at Pet Food Express and Chewy Snuggle is most certainly a super senior and spends most of her day lounging. She is calm and quiet and sweet and gentle. She exists well with other dogs but we have not seen her initiate much interaction with them. She has not been officially tested with cats but did not seem to be interested in the ones at our vet clinic. She seems to be housebroken but does not ask to go out yet. She walks well on a leash and loves riding in the car. Snuggle may be in her sunset, but she sure does deserve to be treated like a princess for the time she has left. She would love a calm home who would pamper her fiercely. If you are interested in adopting her please email beourpetgmail To make a tax-deductible donation towards her care, please do so online at .paypal.me/UOH or Venmo umbrellaof-hoperescue #startastoryadopt #shelterpetlove GENERAL INFO: Housebroken?: Yes, we think so Crate Trained?: Yes Leash Trained?: Yes Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: No Good with cats?: Yes, we think so Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: yes Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 10 Umbrella of Hope is a non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals off death row from local shelters. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
