st to find out if I’m available to meet during the week. I’m a sweet guy who lost my home due to a move out of state. As hard as my family tried, they just couldn’t work things out for me to go, so MM’s is going to help me find a new home and family to love. I’ve lived in a big home with a big fenced yard and I’ve lived in a small apartment the last 3 years with no yard, and have adapted well in both. We know I’m 10 years old, but I seem much, much younger as I’ve been well cared for and loved all my life! I love going out for walks and hitting the trails and I love running free in a big yard too, so I won’t complain if you have one. I’m very friendly and love people, but can be a little hesitant or slightly fearful of men or very loud people at first, but after I quickly get to know them, I’ve been just fine. My former family says the I would let you pet me all day long if you wanted to, but if you tire of petting me just tell me to lie down. My favorite game is playing catch and I enjoyed playing in the recent snow too. I also like chew bones and toys with squeakers in them. I’m a great watch dog but very friendly with people that come into the house. I know the following commands, ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘lie down’, ‘shake’ (or give me your paw) and ‘get in your bed’, so I’m a smart guy too! I never needed a crate in my former home, I just sleep in my doggie bed and rest my head on the rim like it’s a pillow. I’m so cute! I’ve lived with a kitty cat for years and we’re good friends, so hopefully I’d be the same with a new kitty, let’s just slowly meet to make sure. I’ve also been good with the dogs I’ve met that were nice to me, although I haven’t been around dogs a lot, so if you have a nice doggie in your home, let’s meet. My former family reports that I have great potty manners too. I haven’t been around kids a lot but have a sweet nature, so I think I’d like them, but best no very young kids I may bump over. Energy level: 4-6. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, neutered and my adoption fee is $275.00.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
