tions, dewormed 3 times; I will be on monthly flea/tick preventative because you know those little critters are plentiful in Texas and my foster mom makes sure we are fresh and clean all the time. I have a twin brother named Buster but when you look at us closely you can see the difference. I look more like my daddy and Buster has some of my mom's markings on his ears and paws, We had a sister that looked my mom but some rescue group took her before my foster mom could get back and now they won't give her back. So my mom is a Basenji/Shepherd mix and my dad is a Hound/Shepherd mix. Dad was so sweet. Both of my parents were dumped in a bad neighborhood by their owners and they started hanging with the strays in the area that my mom feeds daily. Those strays do not want to get caught so my mom just takes care of them. You can see my parents on Facebook Page: Roxy's K-9 Rescue under the album MOVING COMPANY PUPPIES. My foster mom saved us from under those heavy steel beams, there were only 3 of us hanging on in the 100 degree weather. But we are happy now, we play with tennis balls that are almost bigger than us and we have BIG stuffed animals that we fight over and the toy is much bigger that both of us put together. We have a spunky survival spirit and we love being in a home. Although we miss our mom and sister. We are not barkers, we are quiet and being spoiled and we love being held and carried around. When you get us, we will be spoiled rotten. They are trying to potty train us but we are resisting right now, I guess we'll give in to what they want us to do in about 2 weeks. I like playing with toys but I live playing with my brother Buster best of all. And when we hear our foster mom come home, she yell for joy because we know she is going to pick us up! My personality is still developing but you can say I am independent and can keep myself company playing with things. Right now we are at a different home and we will be going to the home of the lady who saved us and we heard she really gets puppies in shape before they go to their new home. Don't worry you will love us!!!! Mom isn't sure if we are going to stay small since we were deprived of nutrients early in our young lives or if we'll reach the size of our parents. Our mother weighed about 40 lbs and dad weighed about 55 lbs. Don't you want to adopt us? We are in San Antonio, Tx but they transport dogs every month across the U.S. PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBSITE FOR MORE PICTURES: roxxysk9rescue or Facebook page: Roxy’s K9 Rescue ADOPTION FEE & APPLICATION REQUIRED Roxy's K-9 Rescue does not have a shelter, all of our foster dogs are raised in private homes; . 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
