escues and we got a dog named Shayla. Shayla is a very happy and lovable dog and then after that about a year or two we decided to get another dog from Joyful Rescues and I was really excited. This dog we named Moose. Moose is probably my best buddy to me. You can never get mad at Moose because he has a big personality of happiness and love. He's a big dog but he's a lap dog, like I'll be sitting down and Moose will come and sit on my lap. Moose is always near me anywhere I go. I love both of my rescues from Joyful Rescues. This year I have raised $500 and I want to name my rescue THEA'S RESCUE." ~ Thea Nahrebeski Thadeus was said to be born about May 22, 2012, but our guess would include a few more years. He came in underweight, but should top out about 50 lbs. He is really sweet and not your noisy variety hound. He has been good with the other dogs, but grumbles if he is disturbed so he could be an only dog or with a dog that is not going to think Thadeus should play with them because he's been wonderful with the adult dogs that he hangs with. He seems to think that laying around being cozy is going to be the new life for him. The vet did find a grade 2 systolic heart murmur which is low grade and it is what it is. While he has been at JR we have noticed he keeps his kennel very clean leading us to believe he is nicely housetrained. He also walks beautifully on leash. This is all we know so far as the southern shelter staff don't ask questions on intake as the reason is so often financial in their poverty stricken county so we will be learning as we go and so will you. Thadeus arrived at the vet with many ticks and was tested for all tick diseases one month later as a precaution and all came back negative. FOSTER UPDATE: Oh, my! What a sweet, sweet boy!! He does love going for walks and car rides and loves being with his friends (human and canine). Honestly, this is one awesome boy who LOVES spending quality time with his humans...but really...who doesn't? One thing to know is that this poor guy experienced something bad with storms (I feel he was chained outside and has become terrified of being outside during storms). When it thunders he needs the comfort of being safe inside his home with hugs. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $275.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY. Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption. Can't Adopt Me? 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
