EDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Wave Best Guess for Breed: Basset hound mix Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of February 2024 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 20 lbs Gets Along With: Wave does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. Because he is shy, we do not recommend a home with children under the age of 12. Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Because Wave is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. Due to his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12. About Wave: Wave is looking for a fresh start with patient, supportive humans. A Tale of Resilience: Wave and his brother Riptide came from a challenging hoarding situation and are ready for a fresh start! While they were well-fed, their exposure to the world beyond was limited. Now, stubby-legged cutie is on a journey to discover life's wonders, one brave step at a time. A Gentle Spirit: Wave possesses a gentle spirit that shines through despite his past. He's a soul yearning to explore the world but in need of patience and understanding as he adjusts to unfamiliar sights and sounds. Building Bravery: City life may be overwhelming for Wave initially. The hustle and bustle of urban environments can be daunting for a dog who hasn't seen much beyond his previous surroundings. However, with the right adopter by his side, Wave can gradually build his bravery and confidence. Patient Adoption with Second Dog Required: Wave is seeking an adopter who understands his needs and is willing to offer patience and support as he navigates his new world. Wave needs a home that already has a confident resident dog to help show him the way. With time and encouragement, Wave has the potential to blossom into an outgoing and adventurous companion. Adoption Information: Are you and your current dog able to help Wave on his journey to bravery? If you have the patience and love to offer this gentle soul, consider opening your heart and home to Wave. Fill out an adoption application here: .luckydoganimalrescue/adopt/adoption-process What My Foster Says About Me: Wave is still a bit nervous after newly arriving in foster care. We'll update this section once he relaxes and we're able to get more insight about his personality. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
