I know they'll be happy & so will Scarlet to have a family who will be devoted to her. ** Be sure to watch Scarlet's video below playing with her foster sisters, it's fun watching them all get along so well** Scarlet, is a young, medium size, 35 lbs little bundle of love! She came in together with Glenda where they both found themselves in the same kill shelter on KY thru no fault of their own. When I first saw her photo at the shelter I thought she was a Beagle & I LOVE Beagles but I was surprised to find when she arrived that she is actually a Collie/Beagle and Rabbit! Her coat is like putting your hands into a cotton ball. She’s very friendly full of personality & has a sweet gentle disposition. She gets along with all the dogs & is learning how to play with her foster siblings & with toys. First time I gave her a toy she dropped it on the floor & walked away. As is often the case with the dogs who have never known what it’s like to be an inside dog much less receive all the attention & food, water & treats they are baffled at first BUT they also always figure it out quickly. Now she plays with her toys all the time & so far she hasn’t had to need to destroy them. I really love when a dog can just play & not create a mess for me to clean up! If she sounds like the kind of little dog you would like to bring into your life you can apply on our website. Be sure to read our adoption requirements first to keep from being disappointed. As with all LnF dogs, they live in a foster home with our family, guaranteed to love people with gentle & sound dispositons, get along well with other dogs, are all fully vetted with all their necessary shots, spayed, microchipped, tested for Heartworm/Lyme, wormed, crate & house trained. Thank you for choosing to adopt! A minimum 4 foot high fence is always mandatory – there are no exceptions to a physical fence & we do not accept any type of electric fence. Every LnF dog lives in a foster home & have been thoroughly temperament tested to guarantee a sound disposition, loves people & is fine with other dogs. Each has been evaluated by the *ASPCA Meet Your Match Program.* Our goal is to help you adopt a dog not just by a photo -- but one that fits your lifestyle.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
