only one home his entire life. Very sadly, he came to B&B cuz he nipped the 20 mo old human. It was over a toy. Our trainers have worked with him and we feel this is a training issue with him. He is not obsessive over his possessions and, looking back, his previous mom said she could have prevented the accident. In an abundance of caution, we are saying older kids or adults pls. He has been a loving and wonderful companion for many years - and we are confident he can succeed in another home that will be so lucky and adored to have him. He has a wonderful demeanor. He's done very well at B&B and has become a favorite of some of the volunteers. Good at mingling with other dogs, and great when traveling and being taken to new places. Loves meeting people. Obedient, and a good listener. Learns quickly. Very good at coming when called. Just give him time to settle into his new home! We have paperwork on him that goes back to when he was a tiny pup- he had been part of an unwanted litter brought to a shelter when his former owner adopted him. His new owner will be able to take all his records. 3/15/18 Got his stay-at-home Mom and military Dad - he's looking forward to lotsa walks and love from his new family. Only dog Mom was interested in seeing at B&B - and immediate love connection made! They said he was very smart and loved him a lot. Sadly he was unreliable with the Dad.....sometimes OK, but fearful that expressed itself at aggression - nipped for seemingly no reason. He was a-ok with several regular male staff/voluteers at B&B - and is fine with male visitors. They kept him two weeks and we appreciate what we learned about him. And we understand their need to return him. We will always take any of our dogs back, for any reason, for the rest of their lives. Our recommendation for him to be successfully adopted is: estrogen enriched environment....women only. OK w/ male visitors and meeting male strangers. How about a female home to foster him? We adore Rusty Beck and he is welcome to live at B&B forever. Are you my furrever family? 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
