obably a hunting dog. He was very thin. Today he maintains his ideal weight of 38 pounds. He loves the attentiOn from humans and loves to run and play. I am hoping the right person will come along and give Jethro the special love and attention ...and understanding that he needs. Jethro is about 6-8 years old. He needs rehoming because his owner is very ill and can no longer take Jethro for walks or even take him outside. Jethro is a gorgeous Beagle who is extremely smart. We will only adopt him out to an experienced, dog savvy person. He likes taking the upper hand and that his why we want applications from a person with training experience. Jethro is an independent thinker and sometimes pretends he doesn't hear you. Haha. But he is a nice dog and cooperates in the end. He is a quick study. He knows many commands and is very alert! He knows sit, down, roll over, play dead and shake. Jethro loves to play! He will chase a ball, bring it back, and drop it at your feet. Then again, sometimes he will bring it back but he won't give it to you. If he thinks you don't look busy enough, he will look for his ball and put it on your lap! And he loves to play "Catch the Treat! Toss him a kibble or a doggy biscuit, he will leap in the air and catch it. h in s current owner took him to obedience training. Jethro's coloring is beautiful. His fur goes from a soft orange then blends into a brownish color on his sides. It is very unique. He has light brown eyes and gorgeous long ears. He looks like a manly Miss P, the best in show at Westminster in 2015. He is great with cats. In fact, there is a cat in his current home that is his best friend. They play together and even snuggle on the couch. Jethro lets the cat sit on him! He would be happy as an only dog with an active person or with other friendly dogs. Jethro will need definitely need a secure fenced yard. He may be middle aged, but he loves to run. He is also a wanderer. Like most Beagles, he is interested in exploring beyond his own yard. For more information about Jethro, please call or text me, Margaret, at 716-480-4357. I was his foster Mom in 2015. He is currently still living with his owner Rich who is holding on to him as long as he can. He is sad about having to give up Jethro. My email is maspittler75@aol.com I will email the application to interested parties upon request. His rescue is in KY but I will be their NY representative and will handle the adoption. The adoption fee is $150.00. PLEASE NOTE:. Better Days Are Coming Dog Rescue has extended this courtesy post hoping to help. This dog is not in Better Days Are Coming Dog Rescue. They are not libel for any information, processing or adoption, or fostering of posted animal . Carlise - Intake Director 716-335-0045 www.betterdaysarecominginc.org

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
