foster homes so please call 770-272-6888 1st to find out if I’m available to meet during the week. Hi there, I’m Waldo! I’ll likely be your fast friend, putting my paw on your leg as if to say, “keep the petting” coming my way as I just love it. Basking in the sun with my people is also a nice treat for me. When leash walking outside, I may talk when I see other dogs running or playing because I want to join in, but I respond well to the ‘leave it’ command. I’ve liked the dogs I’ve met at MMs, but some dogs may not appreciate my “talking” to them, so let’s meet if you have a nice doggie at home and see if we can be pals. I went to a temp. foster home and was nice and quiet there. I was also very sweet, calm, and relaxed, as well as very well-behaved. I and had a blast with the family watching football all afternoon after a nice morning walk! My potty manners have been great on the shelter schedule as well as in my temp. foster home. I slept in my crate at night in my previous home, though it’s not my favorite place, and I didn’t need a crate in my temporary foster home. I love treats, especially cheese and get a bit anxious and nippy with high value treats, my trainer is working with me on this. I take dog treats very gently, but cheese? I love it so! In my previous home I nipped a finger over cheese, but I don’t think I even knew I did it. So sorry about that! I met a bird at MMs and I didn’t like him, so a home with birds (and most likely other small pets like hamsters, bunnies, etc.) will not be a good fit for me. I don’t love hugs but absolutely adore petting and scratches, hugs make me a little tense and in the previous home, I was hugged a lot, so I would growl about it to communicate, please stop. I have been great at MM’s and have not growled. Just ask my trainer for lots more info. about me as I’m a smart and fun dog! I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program: I’ve mastered the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, 'meeting strangers politely', 'go to your place’, 'safety around doors’, ‘leave it’, ‘drop it’, ‘loose leash walking’, ‘down’, and ‘come’ commands. I’m looking for a family that will exercise with me a bit and that will take great care of me! I ride well in the car, so you can take me places too! I love all the nice employees at Home Depot too as I get to go there with my trainer sometimes! I met a sweet 10-year-old at the shelter and did very well with him, so a home with kids that age or older will likely be a good fit for me. Best no toddlers, though, since I don't like to be hugged. Energy level: 5-7. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, neutered and my adoption fee is $275.00.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
