new house has a big backyard and I just love to roam around it. I would love a yard in my new family home, or someone that just likes going for walks and exploring! All the new sniffs and sights are so cool! Its just nice to hang out in the sunshine and enjoy nature! Sometimes I can be a little shy at first, but everyday I am gaining more personality! I have had a little bit of a hard beginning and have had a few homes, so I'm looking for my next home to be my forever home! A long, long time ago I came from a puppy mill operation in Michigan and lived my whole life in a wire cage. The first time I ever was able to play and run like a normal dog was when I was rescued. You can see pictures of me enjoying my first run at freedom here. After leaving the bad place I did have some troubles getting used to potty training, so I found myself looking for a new home. But now that I am with my current foster I have found with a little love and attention I am a super fast learner and it is no problem at all! When I first came to my new house I was a little scared of all the other dogs at my foster house and wasn't sure where to use the bathroom, but just after a week and half later now I know how to whine at the back door and will paw my friends in the morning to let me out to go potty. I have gotten really good at not having any accidents! BUT my new house will have to remember it might take a little time for me to adjust. I do the best in training lately when everyone gets happy when I go potty outside, and makes a little squeal:) It lets me know I did a good job! I don't do well if someone gets mad at me, it just makes me scared and confused. I like positivity! After being at my new house for a bit I absolutely LOVE other dogs, and really thrive being around them, because of that it is really important that I go to a home with at least one other dog. The doggies teach me confidence and remind me how to be a dog! My foster mom says she thinks I even have been reminded that I am a beagle! :) She caught me on the counter the other day and was digging in the trash :) I am also getting used to having a lot of attention and love! Lately I like jumping in my foster mama's lap and I wiggle my but when I see her :) I like being a part of my pack and I love to snuggle! Right now my foster mom and dad have been nice enough to let me sleep in bed with them, right in between them! I even like to lay with my new doggie friends, I particularly like the other beagle (go figure!) and the puppy we have at the house :) I even like my new human kid friends, they let me lounge on the couch with them. I have been a really good girl and can be left unkenneled at home lately when my friends are at work. My foster family says I am the sweetest thing and always are saying "how could someone not want this girl??" Even though I had a little rougher of a beginning, I am just your typical beagle who loves laying around, snuggling, eating, and loving :) I will need a family that is patient and positive, and ultimately loves me forever :) Submit an Adoption Application * All animals are in foster homes located throughout the Twin Cities & Central Minnesota. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
