uess that I was born around September 2008, but I’m not sure if I believe it because I feel much younger. I am a medium sized boy weighing in at about 40 pounds. I’m mostly beagle with probably a bit of basset in there as well. Foster mom says that I have the best howl that she’s ever heard. I don’t always bark when my foster siblings do, but I howl with excitement when people come home. I will bark to let you know when I need to go potty. I’m fully house trained. I love, love, love people. Cuddling is my favorite. And if you’ll let me, I will sleep between the pillows on the bed at night. I’m super mellow and would never even dream of being destructive in the house. I like nice things. I don’t want to ruin them. I have never begged for food in my foster home, but I wouldn’t say no if you offered me a bit of ham! I really enjoy walks. It means I get to spend time with the humans while enjoying the outdoors. Win/win! I don’t really pull much. Why bother? I don’t have an aggressive bone in my body. I also love to roam around the backyard and let my Beagle nose get a workout; it would be great if my family had a fenced in backyard for me to run around in. I get on with everyone, including cats. I sometimes sleep with one on the dog bed by the fireplace. I don’t need a crate when the humans are gone. I’m a super good boy. I love playing and wrestling with other dogs, and I would love to have a doggie friend in my forever home. I’m not so sure about toys yet. My foster mom says that someone is going to be very lucky to have me in their family. There are no kids in my foster home, but I know I would be very good with them. If they’re giving me attention, I’d be putty in their hands. Well, that is all from me because mom said that she wants to say a few things. Foster mom here. Nash is seriously the sweetest, most mellow boy ever! He just wants to be happy and be loved. He doesn’t really know any tricks at this point, but I know he’d be super easy to train. He really aims to please. He just wants to be close to people and feel safe. He’s right. I do think someone will be very lucky to have him in their family. Also, you should know Nash recently completed treatment for heartworm. He is now healthy and doing great and must remain on year-round heartworm preventative. Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Please go to our website www.wagsmn.org and fill out an Adoption Application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
