re, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Winter is a 10 month old female Bichon-Poodle (Bichapoo) mix who weighs in at 10 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $800. If you are still interested, please read more below. Meet Winter. If ever a puppy deserves a loving forever home, Winter does. She came to ARF neglected and filthy with a cough, fever and two infected ears. On top of that, she broke her leg in November. She has recovered from all of this! While she may occasionally favor it, the vet says her leg has healed nicely and she is healthy and happy now! Winter has the softest coat and is absolutely stunning following her first professional groom. Winter will be your best friend and shadow. She loves sleeping in bed with her head on her Foster Mommy’s shoulder—such a cuddle bug! Her Foster Mommy is working on separation anxiety as well as potty training. She is doing good with going potty outside with just an occasional accident. Continued diligence from her new humans should help her succeed. Winter should be in a home that only uses positive training, and until she has resolved her separation issues she should have a family that is home most of the time. Although working on crate training, Winter gets upset if left in a crate. Winter is learning good behavior and excelling and thriving daily. Winter is the sweetest! She is super affectionate and playful, but also loves to sit quietly on the couch with you. Her personality will shine through with patience and most of all love. Winter is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and spayed. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting. Thank you for considering a rescue pet from A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation! We are based in Wheaton, IL and conduct adoption events in the DuPage County area. If you are interested in adopting one of our pets, please submit an adoption application at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Adoption appointments are scheduled based on the order of applications received, so submit your application early! Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions or schedule meetings until your application has been approved. More information about our adoption process can be found on our website here: .arf-il/adopt/ As an all-volunteer, foster home-based organization, A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. Please visit .arf-il/events/ for a list of our upcoming adoption events. Thank you for choosing to adopt, not shop!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
