rdo could not recognize his wife Lucy when she was wearing a funny wig??? Seriously, why didn’t he just give her a real big sniff, that’s how I recognize people and I am blind, I can’t even use my eyes. I have a lot in common with Lucy, because I too can dance and wish to be in the show. *Cue the music* Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl. At the Copa, Copacabana. My name actually is Lola and I am an 8 year old Bichon Frise mix, weighing in at 12.6 pounds the perfect fit for any adult lap. I get along with all dogs, but need a slow intro because bossy in yo face dogs scare me a little since I am blind and old and a tad grumpy at times. I am housebroken and crate trained, but I am not a fan of my crate. But Foster Mommy keeps me in there when she can’t watch me due to my blindness, she doesn’t want me getting hurt. Since dogs use our super power of scent and hearing to navigate, I can make it from inside the house to the outside yard barely missing a step. I learned it in less than a week, because I am super smart. To help me out, you will need to be a house that doesn’t redecorate a lot, because furniture moving around will mix up my path. I will be prancing through your house in no time flat once I learn the map. I LOVE attention and rubs, especially getting my lil hiney scritched and scratched. Just like my name implies, I spin and jump and dance around when I play. I even have a feisty side and like to play nip on your hands, I pretend they are toys…maybe they are, I can’t see them, so they could be (winky face). If you think I am cute now, wait till I get out of the salon. If you want to add a dancing start to your home, pick me to be in your show! I am fostered in San Antonio, but like all good showgirls, I can be packed and ready to travel in seconds. Please email Adoptions@Godsdogsrescue.org and tell them you are ready for ME! GOD'S DOGS Rescue, in San Antonio TX, does not have a shelter - ALL of our dogs are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
